The Dirty Details of KY Jelly

KY Jelly is probably a lot older than you think it is. KY Jelly initially hit the scene in January of 1904, when Van Horn and Sawtell of New York City promoted it as a surgical lubricant. Later, Johnson and Johnson bought out the company, as the product was gaining popularity in the medical industry because of its natural base. It has been said that the letters K and Y of KY Jelly are arbitrary letters that are kept by Johnson and Johnson for its brand identity, but there are tons of urban legends circulating around the Internet speculating that perhaps there is more to the name than the sheer randomness claimed by the suits at Johnson and Johnson.

Because KY Jelly does not have any weird reactions to latex, it is widely used as a fantastic sexual lubricant. Additionally, it does not affect silicone rubber based sex toys, which makes it ideal for all kinds of bedroom (or, you know, wherever) play. Although it is not recommended that KY Jelly be consumed in any significant quantities, because it does not have a funky taste (if anything, it is a little on the sweet side), it does not interfere at all with oral sex.

The consistency of KY Jelly is unique in and of itself, as it is thick and tends to dry out fairly quickly during use. However, any dried up KY Jelly can be rejuvenated back to approximately the quality that it came out of the tube by adding saliva or water, whichever suits you, to what is left of it. KY Jelly is what scientists like to call biologically inert, meaning the odds of having some sort of painful chemical reaction on your penis while getting busy are slim to none (always something to be on the lookout for while lube shopping). Also, KY Jelly uses hydroxyethyl cellulose and glycerin as the primary lubricant, but it also has some antiseptic additives.

Today, besides regular tubes of KY Jelly, consumers can choose from a variety of KY brand sexual lubricants. All of them are available at a minimal cost over the counter, so there are no expensive doctors visits required to get your hands on some. Some of the other lubricants available from the brand, besides KY Jelly, include KY Warming, KY Liquid and KY Yours and Mine (which is specially made for couples who like to try different types of lube).
