Tiffany produces beautiful table lamps, chandeliers, and hanging lamps too. In fact the history of hanging Tiffany Lamps is quite remarkable.

Tiffany lamps are pieces of art and an awesome addition to any room. No one would argue differently. And from it's earliest days that's exactly what Louis Comfort Tiffany intended to do. Provide good art for homes throughout America.

Tiffany was a remarkable man that managed to perfect so skills. He was first and foremost and artist. In fact today he is though of as one of the most influential artists, craftsmen, and designers of the century. He was also a world traveler, a manufacturer, a photographer, a painter, a collector, and an interior designer.

It really shouldn't be a surprise that Louis Tiffany was so talented. After all he was the eldest son of Charles Tiffany the founder of legendary Tiffany and Co. jewelry company. Louis simply chose to follow his heart and his dream of a career in art rather than the family business.

From 1860 to 1870 he was a very successful painter and then in 1880 he turned to interior design his true passion which he pursued until his death. His passion was to see decorative arts gain the same status as fine art and his Tiffany lamps did a great deal towards the cause.

Tiffany stained glass lamps were born on a whim when Louis decided to arrange bits of colored glass left into a lamp shade that was a miniature version of his stained glass windows. It was so new and so unique it become an instant hit.

But over the life of his career designing he was never content with what he had designed. He was always striving to find new techniques, to create bolder colors, broader ranges of textures, and different sheens. He patented may techniques throughout his career.

Tiffany continuously worked with craftsmen to manufacture Tiffany shades, bases, and other Tiffany products. Lamp bases were often made of bronze and the work of fine sculptors. Stained glass shades were the result of fitting hundreds of pieces of glass together by hand inside copper foil which were light and strong. Hanging Tiffany lamps could be made very large because of the strength of the copper. Every Tiffany lamp was given a model number.

The Tiffany lamps were beautiful and extraordinary resulting in their continuous popularity but during the 1930s and 1940s their popularity did dye of some because they were considered too ornate for the new Expressionism standards.

That was not to last. By the 1950s they were back in vogue and in fact they had become so popular that they were now being found in museums and seriously collected by avid collectors. In 1998 two Tiffany lamps made history by each bringing almost $2 million dollars at auction.

The earlier Tiffany shades made by Louis Comfort Tiffany personally are usually inscribed L.C.T. or Favrile while the lead glass shades have a metal signature tags.

Tiffany shades encompass several design styles such as Favrile, geometric, and floral. Geometrics were made from squares, rectangles, triangles, and ovals and where the simplest of designs.

Cones, rhomboids, and ellipses followed. The transition was then to flowers which were elaborate and breathtaking. But Tiffany continued to be inspired by nature and soon began to produce shapes that included dragonflies, peacocks, spider webs, insects, leaf patterns, dogwoods, trees and any other shapes related to nature.

Today choices are simply endless. From red jeweled eyes, to orange dragonflies to decadent roses to the blues of the sea Tiffany designs have it all to offer. There's nothing ordinary about hanging Tiffany lamps or any other Tiffany lamp. Every piece is a work of art and every piece is unique and mesmerizing and breathtaking.

And if a hanging lamp isn't what you want not to worry. Tiffany has a great selection of table lamps, accent lamps, floor lamps, and chandeliers. There is simply a design and style for every home and every room.

Louis Comfort Tiffany was a versatile designer of extraordinary range that continuously worked outside the box with his stained glass designs driven by his unique vision. He saw no project as unobtainable and continuously sought to outdo his last creation or his last design. His mission was to continue to provide exquisite beauty that received the recognition that the decorative arts so deserved.

Tiffany lamps have always been recognized around the world for their superior quality and hand crafted designs and styles. Don't be fooled by knock offs claiming to be Tiffany. Spend some time examining a true Tiffany and you'll never be fooled again. And remember if the price sounds too good to be true it is!

Other manufacturers have been attempting to fly on the coattails of Tiffany for years but there simply is no other lamp that has the quality or artistic impression of a true Tiffany lamp. Be sure you know hat you are buying.
