The Local's Guide to Winter Hot Spots in the Gold Coast



A day at the Ferry Road Markets in Southport is a fun  way to spend the day.  Have lunch at Spendelove Bistro and bar which offers cutting edge food created by their award winning chef, Luke Turner.  Afterwords do a little fresh market food shopping before you head over to Trade secret for some much deserved retail therapy.  This is a bargain hunter's delight. Head to the Flea markets, Carra Markets too.  Here you will be able to find some sinful snacks at the center of the market and stock up on all the flea market finds.

At sundown head around the corner to the Garlic Clove restaurant, 124 Pappas Way, Cararra for dinner. Weeknight Escapades: Park your car at Circle on Cavill, Surfers Paradise and have dinner at Yuuga Japanese Restaurant (in a little arcade opposite Bavarian Steak House) - the food is to die for! Then go bowling at Strike in Circle on Cavil and finish with Gelati from the little Gelati store upstairs.If you keep youre bowling receipt then you will ensure your free parking;Weekender: Splash out and treat a loved one to a night to dine for .Room 81 ,Surf Parade , Broadbeach,is the perfect venue for a romantic dinner.The tip is to leave plenty of room for all the courses and especially dont miss out on the cheese !

What could be better than a picnic in the park on a sunny winter day?  Check out Budds Beach,where there are no waves in Surfers.  Burleigh Heads is another alternative to think about. Here you can find a long grassy strip right next to the beach for picnicking. Surfers Rowers is a hot spot to meet up with friends for a mid-week drink or two, they offer "cheap pizza night" once weekly and  stunning views of the water.

For a fried feast, go to the Pink Poodle Bar.  Here you can indulge on local favorites like chips with mayo, meatballs, fried cheese balls and much more. A few Duvels to wash it all down make the perfect pair.  Duvels, Pale Belgian Ale is a favorite among the locasl.

After sundown it's fun to dine under the stars al fresco. Many restaurants offer warm outdoor heaters for your comfort. You may also like to head over to Alto Cucine and Bar specializing in Mediterranean cuisine, or Sassy Dining (International), and East (Modern Asian). Another favorite activity of the locals is to people watching at the popular Lounge Bar and Restaurants Koi and Satin.
