The Medical sales jobs boards revolution

In those pre-Internet times, advertisements for medical sales jobs could only be placed local and national newspapers. I do not recollect there being any industry specific weekly or monthly magazines. The first stages of the process were therefore to design of the advert to submit it to the newspaper several days before its publication date.

The leading positions in the newspaper's advertising pages would be taken block advertisements either on behalf of the major employers, or at least for major company "team builds". Non-major medical sales jobs adverts they would appear in less prominent places, almost like "small ad's".

At this stage it was usual to build another delay into the system by nominating a closing date for applications. the idea behind this was to give potential candidates time to make up their minds, assemble their applications and send them to the employer (or recruitment agency) by traditional postage.

After the closing date the recruiters would make up a short list and send out invitations for candidates to attend interviews. Again this would mean sending letters by traditional postage, and again this would introduce a few more days delay into the process. Moreover, interview dates would be chosen in such a way as to give the candidates reasonable notice ... involving further a delay.

The Internet has changed all this beyond recognition; not straight away, but over a period of years. Recruitment for medical sales jobs has become (mostly) Internet based. The whole process is faster because Email is so quick compared to traditional postage, but that is by no means the end of it. The nature of the process has changed; the recruiter-candidate balance has changed.

In this new high-tech world candidates for medical sales jobs would be well advised to start their search by registering with one or more of the so-called Internet jobs boards. These "boards" are in fact websites where employers or recruitment agencies can post jobs, and where candidates can see, and launch applications for, those jobs. Due to this alone several of the "old style" delaying stages are eliminated, and the process speeds up.
When candidates register on these jobs boards, they would normally upload their details, including a CV, onto the board. Then, when a suitable medical sales vacancy is posted on the board they can, via a single mouse-click, trigger the computer system to send their details, including their CV, to the corresponding advertiser.

As a result, once a candidate has completed the registration process, he will be able to select vacancies and fire off applications, in almost no time at all. Indeed, this creates a situation in which where it is possible for a candidate to choose several vacancies from the jobs board's lists, and dispatch to each his prepared application in a matter of minutes.

Things are very different from the recruiter's point of view as well. As soon as their vacancy for a medical sales job is posted on the jobs board, the jobs board computer system will scan through its list of registered candidates for any who might be suitable. It will then automatically alert those candidates by Email.

By this means it is entirely possible that the recruiter for newly posted medical sales vacancy could be attracting applications within an hour. From a recruitment agency's point of view this kind of speed would be a major advantage.
