The PCAT Formula for Helping People Make Changes with Hypnosis
|
PCAT stands for problem, confusion, active solution and transform. P. Identify if your subject really has a problem and what is it. There are times when subjects are in-denial of a problem or may not be aware of it. As the hypnotist, your job is to activate this problem, let the subject know what he can do about it and ultimately help the subject find a solution. When a person is aware of a problem, the mind starts to light up and makes it possible for the solution and problem to find one another and get together inside the mind. C. Initiate confusion. This is not to traumatize or scare your subject. Instead, confusion will trigger a whole new state of mind on your subject. Confusion will help break a pattern in the life of your subject that led him to the problem he is facing. Then confusion will induce trance that will make your subject try to escape confusion. This momentary event will help give way to thinking of solutions. Lastly confusion will then bypass resistance. It will focus you subject in trying to get out of confusion rather than compete with your help. A. Activating a solution. Confusion will pave the way to this step. But also, you can make use of other different skills in conversational hypnosis such as story telling, emotional triggers, reliving a past experience and visualization. You will find that solutions will not surface in only one instance. It will take for both you and the subject to really work and find it. Patience is a must. T. Transform is the tool that will attach the problem to the found solution. Combining the problem and the solution is the integral part of the whole PCAT formula. When the whole process is over, transformation from problem to solution is the most rewarding. It is essential though, to make sure that the process, experience and solutions will positively influence the life of your subject.
