The Parasol Umbrella As a Safety Measure
|
As you are well aware, there has been a great deal of interest in the topic of cancer and cancer prevention over the past few decades. In fact, it wasn't that long ago that sunscreen manufacturers were using models who projected an image of a deep, dark tan; now, that type of advertising would be soundly criticized and the sunscreen distributors would have paid a high price to do some public relations spinning in an effort not to lose market share. Thus, instead of depicting sun-bronzed skin, the men and women in today's sunscreen ads are only lightly colored. Similarly, the sale of self-tanners has begun to take off as more and more individuals ,especially females, are eschewing the sun but still want to look lightly browned. Thus, with the help of some chemicals, they can achieve that sunny glow without exposing their delicate skin to any harmful rays. In such an era of concern over the health of the skin, and the very real worries of skin cancer, parasols are beginning to be used more and more by celebrities and normal folks alike. And it's no wonder; not only are they protective items, but they can also be quite beautiful and ornate. Actually, parasols have a history worthy of a little discussion. These decorative and useful items were used in the far east thousands of years ago to keep royalties heads dry and their skin tout and young-looking. Rather than baking in the hot noonday sun, these honored individuals were carted around by servants who also protected the monarchs using a form of parasol. Throughout history, the parasol has come and gone in terms of fashion. Usually, it followed society's definition of beauty. Thus, if dark complexions were in, parasols were out. If paler complexions were viewed as the height of beauty, parasols suddenly made a comeback. Like the latter description, our modern generation is certainly following a wave of parasol-friendliness. And it's a good thing that the parasol has come back into vogue, because it can literally save someone's life by aiding in eliminating the risk of skin cancer. As is commonly known, just one very bad sunburn can lead to skin cancer; consequently, it's essential to avoid getting even a single first- or second-degree burn. If you're interested in your health and/or the health of those you love, why not invest in a parasol or two today? Though they might not be altogether trendy yet, perhaps you could be the first on your block to sport this device that is not only pretty but also a potential lifesaver. If nothing else, you'll be taking an important step in making sure that you can enjoy many sunny days to come.
