Fax machines have been around for quite awhile now and today there are a variety of different kinds of fax machines on the market. Depending on your needs you can choose from a standard fax machine as well as an all in one office center that includes a fax machine in the same unit as a scanner and printer. One of the more innovative, and convenient option in faxing is the ability to send a fax anywhere you can send e-mail without the need for the recipient to even own a fax machine. This is known as e-faxing and a number of providers offer services that are specifically geared for both personal and home office faxing as well as small business and corporate faxing. Basically, the way an e-fax works is that it is delivered as an email attachment. Depending on your needs, you can either use a service that actually provides free e-fax service or you can pay a fee and usually receive the ability to receive unlimited faxes each and every month. Many such services will even provide the consumer with a dedicated fax number, so that clients never even really need to know that you do not own your own fax machine. The advantages to this type of service are numerous. First, there’s no need to purchase another piece of office equipment that will take up space. In addition, there is no maintenance required as well as no need to stock supplies such as toner and paper. An extra fax line is not needed and consumers who worry about long distance charges can put those concerns aside with an e-fax. Generally, e-faxes can work anywhere that e-mail can be received; even wirelessly and on a global level. Faxes received with an e-fax account can be archived on the recipient’s computer because they are delivered in an e-mail attachment or they can be printed just as any traditional facsimile would be printed. E-faxes can also be sent and received much quicker than traditional faxes. One of the most common problems with traditional faxes is failed transmissions. In some cases, the sender may not even know that the transmission failed; which can cause big problems in business industries or in very important and critical situations. E-faxes tend to be much more reliable because they are delivered through e-mail. Whether you will be required to purchase any additional equipment in order to send and receive e-faxes with commonly depend on the type of service you obtain. For example, you can purchase a high-end computer software e-fax program that will allow you to use your internet connection to send documents. Free and paid e-fax services typically do not require the purchase of any additional equipment as long as you have access to a computer and internet service. When considering the choice between free e-fax services and paid e-fax services, there are a few factors you should keep in mind. Free e-fax services can be a very affordable option for people on limited budgets and/or individuals who do not receive faxes on a regular basis. The one big disadvantage to free e-fax service; however, is that advertising may be placed on outgoing messages in order to cover the cost of the fax transmission. If you don’t have a problem with this, free e-fax services can be great and affordable option. However; if you intend to use e-faxes for business purposes; you may wish to obtain an e-fax service that does not place advertising on outgoing messages and that will usually mean retaining a paid service.
