The Stainless Steel Plate - A Versatile Alternative

Stainless steel is used quite often when it comes to cookware, but many people don't know that the stainless steel plate can also be used for serving food and even for eating off of. If the thought of eating off of a plate made of stainless steel seems foreign to you, you're not alone. Most people eat off of plates made of glass, porcelain, or even china, but not ones made out of stainless steel. The truth is, however, that a stainless steel plate can be very versatile, and many times very elegant and aesthetically pleasing.

The most common use for a stainless steel plate is as a serving dish. Instead of using silver or glassware, you could use a plate made of stainless steel to serve foods. Stainless steel can look great on a table, especially if you have a set of serving dishes that are made of stainless steel. One great thing about using stainless steel serving dishes is that with just a little bit of care they can look very nice for a long time; nice enough to display in your kitchen even when they are not being used. Since it is stainless steel, you don't have to worry about the dishes breaking if they are knocked over like you would if you had glass serving dishes sitting out on display.

Another thing that a lot of people don't think about is that plates made of stainless steel are great for dinnerware when you are camping. Go to an outdoor store or camping supply store and look for camping dinnerware and you are bound to see a lot of aluminum and cast iron. The drawback to using these materials as dinnerware when you are camping is that they will rust and corrode easily if you don't pay a lot of attention to them. If you buy a set of dishes made out of stainless steel and use it specifically for camping, you'll find that the set will be easily cleanable, will stand up to a lot of abuse, and will last a long time. Some people worry that stainless steel dishes are too heavy, but actually they aren't. A stainless steel plate might be slightly heavier than an aluminum plate, but the difference is negligible, and the benefits you get with the stainless steel far outweigh any disadvantages you might encounter. Most of the time if you are bringing dinnerware along when you are going camping you probably are not hiking into the woods; more than likely you and your friends or family drove there, so transporting the dinnerware isn't a problem. Keep your stainless steel dinnerware clean between uses and you'll find that it will far outlast cheaper materials, making it more cost effective in the long run.

Many restaurants use plates made of stainless steel to serve certain types of foods. Fajitas are often served on plates made of stainless steel so that they stay warm longer, and a lot of different foods simply look nicer when they are served on stainless steel. Stainless steel doesn't always have to be plain, and restaurants know this. There may have been times when you thought you were served food on an elaborately decorated silver plate when actually the plate was stainless steel - with highly polished stainless steel it can sometimes be hard to tell.
