The Wall Mount Sink Guide
|
One important issue that should be considered when you choose to install a new wall mount sink, is the support if the future sink. These sinks are relatively heavy and need to be installed in such a way that they have maximum support for you and your house. There are two ways to get that support via a metal bracket attached to the frame and directly bolting the wall mount sink to the framework of your house. I like removing a bit of drywall to get to the framework and add support for the wall mount sink directly to the frame. To do this you should follow these simple rules: 1. Make sure that the wall is part of the house structure. There will be beams supporting the house if it is. Be aware of the plumbing and wiring behind that wall before you cut into it by any means. The last thing you want to do is cut your way into an electrical cord. If you need to reroute plumbing or wiring, be aware that will increase the amount of time needs to install a new wall mount sink.2. You should mask off the work area with sheeting to protect the rest of your bathroom from the dust. Be sure not to forget the floor. Be sure that the power to the bathroom is off. That includes the plug-ins and the light switches. If there is decorative molding, you should carefully remove the molding if you plan to reuse the molding.3. Now I like using a keyhole saw to cut away the drywall where you need to have the back bared. Now I suggest securely adding a 2x6 or 2x8 from one wall stud to the other at about the height you want the wall mount sink. Then toenail the board to the wall studs with long galvanized nails for added support. Then repair the drywall as per instructions. At this point, you are ready to install your wall mount sink. By following the installation instructions you should have few problems. Just make sure to read the instructions thoroughly before you begin and gather all of the needed supplies together and in one location. Keep these suggestions handy and that new wall mount sink won't be so hard to install. About The Author: Alphonso has been working in the home remodeling industry for last 5 years.
