Some say that Strauss ordered fabric from France called "serge de Nimes" and the moniker got abbreviated as "denim;" but anotheer account is the deep blue fabric had been made in America for awhile. The creative addition that Davis brought to the table was the riveted fly front. The rivets were thencopper colored, just as the closures are today. So Strauss became a wholesale apparel manufacturer as well as vendor and in a short time, the organization took off. Probably no apparel wholesaler now, even with the modern technology of the Web, could show as big a success story in the blink of an eye like that.
