Three Things You Should Know about the Miracle Fruit
|
Miracle fruits were banned by the FDA despite passing most major tests and being deemed safe for consumption One of the reasons miracle fruits aren't made widely available in grocery stores and food shops is that they were banned by the United States Food and Drug Administration. The story is rather controversial, considering that the fruit had passed most of the major tests and was deemed completely safe for regular consumption. It all started in the 1970s, when a company was set to market and launch a campaign for miracle fruits. After thorough research, testing, and analysis, and just one day before the product launch, the FDA shut down the project and rejected approval for miracle fruits. It was heart-wrenching for those who poured their blood, sweat, tears, and money into the project. Many have suspected that the rejection by the FDA was due to industrial propaganda. With the size and success of the sugar and artificial sweeteners industries, and the threat that a natural sweetener like miracle fruits might pose, it's easy to see why such speculations might be true. Miracle fruits are a lot safer than other sweetening products As mentioned above, miracle fruits were already considered absolutely safe when they were suddenly rejected by the FDA. The truth is, these fruits are far safer for consumption than many of the household products and ingredients that we use today. Sugar itself can have more harmful effects than miracle fruits if it is not taken with moderation and care. Still, sugar is a common household item and it is used in a wide variety of recipes and foods. Artificial sweeteners can be even more harmful than sugar, yet both sugars and artificial sweeteners are approved by the FDA, while miracle fruits, for some mysterious reason, are not. In fact, miracle fruits are so safe that many people already grow their own miracle fruit plants for their own consumption. In Japan, there are a number of restaurants and cafes that offer miracle fruits to enhance the flavors of some of their dishes and desserts. In New York, people get together for “food tripping” parties where they consume miracle fruits and conduct taste tests with different foods. If miracle fruits were truly harmful to one's health, then certainly the fruit wouldn't be enjoying the popularity it has. Miracle fruits are a true miracle Despite all of the controversy that has surrounded miracle fruits through the years, it cannot be denied that these amazing fruits hold more than just the miracle of taste. There are many applications of miracle fruits that can help people all over the world deal with flavorless and unappetizing food. With miracle fruits, diabetics and dieters can enjoy sweets without the calories or sugar, cancer and chemotherapy patients can eliminate distasteful flavors from medication, and anyone can enjoy a whole new world of flavors.
