Three Wise Bible Sermons Preparation Help
|
Writing Bible Sermons Start with selection of Scripture - At the top of the list of things to do is to make sure that you have a passage of scripture that you want to preach off of. A lot of times, this will lock you into a subject. For instance, if you're preaching on "Crucifixion", it's pretty strange if you prepare the sermon by looking at the "Noah's Ark". If you are focused on a bible verse or topic in mind will make the sermon itself go a lot smoother and even, in some cases, write itself. Kick off with a story - If possible, start your sermon with a story, preferably a personal one. Try to make it a humorous one if you can. The reason for this is because you don't want the congregation falling asleep on you. If you jump right into the theological debate, you're going to lose a lot of your congregation before you even reach the second paragraph. Stories will add a human factor to any sermon and you should try to add stories too. Simplicity - The last important point is, make your sermon simple. A wise minister used to say, if you can't get your point across in under 10 minutes, then it wasn't worth getting across in the first place. One way to keep your sermon brief is to make a list of bullet points that you want to cover in the sermon itself. Many suggested that having three to four bullet forms will be good enough. Each bullet points should be expanded for about 5 minutes and if you have 4 bullet forms, you would have covered at least 20 minutes of sermon time. To conclude, my advice is that pastors and preachers should look at the Lord as the provider of wisdom. It is a good idea to pray (and even fast) before staring a sermon preparation will be a good idea and you should have the inspirations to write a Spirit-fill message.
