Tips For Finding A Name For Your Baby
|
Congratulations on your baby! Choosing a name is a big decision that most parents don’t take lightly. In fact parents tend to start thinking about names long before the baby is born. Here are some tips for finding a name for your baby. Name choosing for baby isn’t an easy task. Mom and dad can have totally different ideas of what they think the perfect name is. One may want to name baby after a favorite aunt or uncle while the other might want to name baby after a sports star. Don’t get into an argument over something so important. Instead sit down and talk it out and consider what would be best for baby to live with for the rest of his or her life. Here’s some things to consider when choosing a name 1. Unique names - Unique name are nice as long as they aren’t too unique. Remember the name you choose is how your child will be called for the rest of their life. Names that are hard to spell or hard to pronounce can be very frustrating. 2. Initials - This is something that’s not often that about but it can result in some horrible teasing. Let’s say you choose to name your baby girl Peggy Irene Goodall. Nice name except the initials form PIG which could mean a lot of grief for your child. 3. Meanings - Many names have special meanings. There are many excellent websites that can help you find out the meaning of a particular name, and of course there are plenty of books too. 4. Sound - After you’ve got a short list of names say them all out loud many times. You will instinctively know if a name sounds right. Listen to your instinct for the best choice. 5. Popularity - Don’t choose names based on the popularity right now. That changes as quickly as the seasons and what’s in today might be classified as horrid 10 years from now. Unique is fine but don’t go silly with names that are way out there. 6. Relatives - It is very common to name a child after a relative especially after a mother or grandmother or father or grandfather. You might consider using the relatives name as the middle name so that there is no confusion. 7. Don’t rush - Take your time and don’t rush on deciding. Make a short list and when your baby is born and you look into his or her eyes you’ll instantly know which name is right. 8. Talk it out - It’s always great to discuss name choice options with your spouse or other family members. It can be a lot of fun and it’s a great way to get some different ideas. 9. Spell It - It’s best if you don’t get creative with spellings. Although it can set your child out from the rest it can also create constant errors in the spelling of your child’s name and it can be really frustrating. 10. Browse Names - There are thousands upon thousands of names to choose from. So why not start browsing early. Pick and then pick some more until you’ve got a nice list of maybes that you can whittle down over time. Finding a name for your baby is one of the most important parental tasks you’ll have but it should also be fun and rewarding!
