Tips For Installing Marine Waterproof Speakers
|
The biggest problem with choosing a stereo and speakers for your boat is the environment. Salt, moisture, waves can quickly take its tole on a regular car stereo. In fact with such a choice you would be wasting your money. You need marine electronics for such a touch job. Marine stereos and speakers are easy to soot because they are rated as such. Once youve purchased the right equipment you will need to make sure it is properly installed to ensure you get the best sound possible. Waterproof EquipmentAutomobile speakers have paper cones, steel grilles and wires that are exposed making it a poor choice for the water. Thats why you need to buy waterproof equipment. You will want plasticote on the circuits so that they are protected from the moisture and wont corrode. You will want waterproof covers that seal so that water cant get in. They should be secure enough that you could hose them down and it wouldnt damage them. MountingGenerally you should not mount your stereo on an angle that is greater than 20 degrees to maintain the full shock absorption capabilities. The shock absorption is whats going to keep the beat a playing when you are slamming over the waves. RemotesThere are many stereos that come with a wireless remote system. The difference between your TV remote and your boat stereo remote is that you have to have a line of site from the remote to the stereo so dont expect it to work from the deck. 1. Speaker InstallationThere are 2 basic speaker types. The Flush Mount SpeakerThese require little space so can be easily installed in tight out of the way spaces. But be prepared to cut a hole in your boat to mount them flush. They also need proper air flow in order to provide the proper sound. 2. Box SpeakersThese speakers do not need any holes cut as they come in their own box and all you need to do is install them in the optimum location. The size of the cones will determine the quality of the sound. Power ConsiderationYour speakers need to be able to handle the power load that your stereo is putting out. High powered speakers wont improve your sound unless your stereo is putting out enough power Speaker Aim FireWhen you install your speakers on the deck you want to make sure that they are directional. You know the old saying ready aim fire. The sound can get washed away in the open space so you need to make sure the speakers are aimed towards the area where the ears will be so that the sound is fired towards the ears. WiringYou should use 18 gauge tinned marine wire to wire your speakers. Copper wire will work but it will corrode really quickly. Make sure the terminals on the speakers are connected in phase and that all connections are sealed and waterproof. Your properly marine waterproof speakers are going to sound great and these tips will ensure your install gives you no problems.
