Tips To Using A Double Stroller
|
If you have two young children the ultimate in convenience can be found in a double stroller. It’s perfect for those quick trips to the mall, a stroll for some exercise, and for traveling. Their lightweight structure makes them easy to handle. Most double strollers come with reclining backrests and a large bonnet that covers the top for protection from the elements and to block the sun, or even to protect resting eyes. The all wheel suspension on these strollers means the front and back wheels turn making them much more maneuverable. And they are equipped with rear breaks. They are a very handy tool for moms with two young children, making life a lot easier. But as with most tools nothing is perfect so these tips will make your experience with your double stroller more enjoyable. There are three styles of double stroller’s front to back, front to front, and side to side. Kolcrat and Graco Duo Glider are both very well known stroller manufacturers and they offer all three models. So which is the best? Deciding isn’t really that difficult. First you need to decide how you want your children sitting. Do you want them right beside each other, do you want them facing each other, or do you want the traditional style stroller just with double the seating. Side by side strollers are wide, in fact they are the widest of all double strollers. The perk to this style is because the children are sitting beside each other they can chatter back and forth, play with their toys, and amuse themselves often leaving mom with a few more spare minutes to get her tasks done. However the big draw back is the width of them. Maneuvering these side by side strollers can be quite difficult and requires some real muscle. They are also a bit of a pain in crowded areas, and they definitely don’t fit in smaller stores. So if you find yourself in smaller spaces like small boutiques or your favorite shop on a regular basis than the front to back or front to front is probably the best choice for you. Front to back or front to front strollers rid you of the width problems of the side to side strollers. This style is much easier to move around and much more mobile especially on walk ways and paths. But because the children are separated they aren’t able to interact so you might have a little more sniveling and complaining. Some of the new models are adding a swivel on the front seat so you can face the children. Brilliant idea! One thing you really need to watch for is how the stroller moves. How much effort does it take to make a turn, what’s the turning radius, how big are the wheels? The bigger the wheels the rougher the terrain you can go over so if jogging is in your daily activity list look for bigger wheels. Always test drive a stroller and it’s best if you can test drive it with the children in it to really find out how it handles. Test drive it like it’s your next BMW. You want to get the mileage out of it! You also need to watch for the weight limit on the stroller. You don’t want it too low as you might still be in need of the stroller but your child’s combined weight would make it unsafe. It’s also a good idea to watch for washable coverings. Kids are kids and things will get spilled so you want to be able to either wash it down or take it off and wash it in the washer. Watch for the backrest positions to ensure they are comfortable angles and make sure there is ample leg room. Yes even the children like leg room! Be sure to also check the sun bonnet to make sure it provides adequate protection. And watch the weight. Some of the doubles are rather heavy and getting them in and out of a car can be quite a chore. Just like there’s no such thing as a perfect car there’s no such thing as perfect stroller but there are several that come pretty close. Graco Duo-Glider and Kolcraft are both highly recommended by moms, and of course there are plenty of others. Follow these tips to choosing a double stroller and you’ll be cruising around town with your children enjoying lots of great outdoor activity, a little bit of shopping, and having a whole lot of fun!
