Tools and Gears will cost you money but you don't have to spend the kids inheritance. If you own a motorcycle and doing repairs is something you like to do you will need to spend some money. You do not have to go and spent thousands of dollars on a set of tools. But to being with you will only need a basic tool kit. It's nice to have new tools to work on your bike but the bike does not care if the tools are new or not. The bolts will come lose whether you use new or used tools. There are good places where you can look for tools. The internet is a great place to find bargain prices online. With just a click of your mouse you can find name brand products at a fraction of the price. If you like to spend part of your weekend at the flee market or garage sales you will save a pile of money. Remember even the mechanic started with a basis tool kit and add more tools as he needed them. Keep your eyes open you will find deals all over the place. Some of the tools you will buy may come with a life timewarranty. If you break one of these tools you can take them back tostore where you purchased it and they will replace it at no charge The first thing you will need is a good set of wrenches. It willdepend on the motorcycle you have whether you will need metric orstandard wrenches. No matter which type of wrenches you need getthe most common sizes first You will also need an open ended and closed ended wrench. In metric you will need 6mm going to 19mm. In standard you will need 1/4 inch to 1 inch. The closed end of the wrench is best to get in 8 points first. 6 point and 12 point are also available. Screw drivers are important. Small ones, long ones, short ones, and big ones, as well as short big ones. With the large selection on the market these can be bought as you need them. You probably already have the basics such as a phillips slotted and roberts. With all the different types of screws and clamps on the market you may also need some special screw drivers. A screw driver is not a chisel nor is it a pry bar. Be sure to use the right tool for the job. Purchase a set of chisels and a few pry bars. If you need a punch to push out a bolt use a brass drift. Purchase a few different sizes from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch because this will save the screw drivers for the job they were intended for. Since steel Phillips heads are used on a lot of motorcycles you will need an Impact Driver. Steel threaded into aluminum is a bad combination of metals because the dislike metals react with each other on a chemical bases which causes the metal to bond to each other. That's when you'll be glad you have that impact gun. Sockets come in 6, 8 and 12 points. The sockets you buy should be 6 point because this gives the best grip on the bolts. Your sockets should be in the same size as your wrench set. Extensions come in all shapes and sizes. These extension fit on the end of the ratchet then the socket fits on the end of the extention. You will lose some of the torque power produced when you pull on the ratchet, but you'll be able to get into those tight spots. Be sure to have a few different lengths available. Several types of pliers are also available. You should get a few different pairs with different jaw lengths. Vice Grips are a necessity. If you only have one size make it a medium size. If possible get as many different sizes as you can afford. You should also get a few Crescent Wrenches. You know this wrench as the good old adjustable wrench. A few sizes are great to have on hand because there is always one bolt that you can't find the right wrench to remove it. There are many tools that you will need at some point. The list could go on and on. But you can buy them over time. The last thing you need to buy right now is a tool box to store those tools in. The optimum toolbox is the style the mechanics have which come in two pieces, the upper section and the lower roll chest. If you can't afford one of these toolboxes than you'll have to settle for the standard run of the mill toolbox. You can always buy the mechanics style one piece at a time as you can afford it. They really are the better investment. Tools are an investment. They should last for years if you buy smart and shop wise. Make this a one time purchase and buy tools to last a lifetime,
