Regardless of which kind of activities interest you, chances are you will find something that will suit your taste during your visit to Toronto and the Greater Toronto area. The area is home to Lake Ontario, Etobicoke Creek and Rouge River; providing plenty of opportunity for water activities. Shopping is also quite popular in the Toronto area, as there are a number of specialty shops and shopping centers in and around Toronto. There are also numerous attractions to see and visit in the Toronto area. One of the most famous landmarks in Toronto is the CN Tower; which is a steel and concrete tower standing at a height of more than 1800 feet. It is recorded as the tallest free standing land structure in the world. Sports fans might also be interested in checking out Rogers Centre, originally known as SkyDome. This sporting arena was the first building to contain a fully retractable roof. The Toronto Argonauts and the Toronto Blue Jays call the arena home. A number of public spaces prove to be quite popular with visitors to the Toronto area, including Nathan Phillips Square; a frequent host to art displays, concerts and a weekly farmer's market. You might also be interested in Queen's Park, a beautiful historic scenic park located near Ontario's Legislative Assembly. Lying outward from the city of Toronto, you will find the Toronto Islands. These islands are accessible by ferry and contain a children's amusement park as well as public park. While you're visiting the Toronto area, don't forget to stop by other interesting attractions and sites such as the Toronto Zoo. The city also contains two cathedrals which date back considerably; the St. Michael's Cathedral and St. James' Cathedral. While in Toronto, you won't want to miss Casa Loma; a castle that overlooks the heart of downtown Toronto. The castle contains secret passages and even an 800 foot long tunnel along with towers and breathtaking gardens that cover a 5 acre area. A number of special events are held at the castle throughout the year. When planning your visit to Toronto you should know that the weather in this area tends to not be quite so extreme as other portions of the country. In fact, it is considered to be one of the mildest regions in the eastern part of Canada. Still, you should plan on winter temperatures around the freezing mark and summer temperatures ranging between 75 and 90 degrees F. Summertime temperatures tend to accompany periods of moderate to high humidity; which can make the temperatures feel even warmer. The winters in Toronto typically experience at least one or two fairly heavy snowfalls of up to eight inches, so it's a good idea to check the weather in advance before traveling or pack accordingly. You should also pack raingear regardless of the time of year you travel to Toronto as thunderstorms can occur rather quickly. It's also a good idea to keep in mind that even during some of the warmer months, the night air can be cool, so you should plan to pack a light jacket or sweater for cooler night temperatures. This is particularly true in areas lying closer to Lake Toronto. About The Author: Jason Petrina is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
