Toxic mold, which is recognized in the scientific world as stachybotrys chart arum, is a hazardous material that could be a hidden hazard. This mold looks like a slimy, black-green layer that grows on wood, drywall or paper in the home. This dangerous mold does not grow on cement, and is keen on growing in damp and humid locations. Homes that have water-pipe leaks or flood damages often host toxic mold. Bathrooms without a proper air vent can eventually cultivate dangerous mold, and even laundry room dryers that do not vent air properly outdoors can cause mold to grow. Toxic mold can have grave health consequences for people living homes in which it resides. Also, all molds, not just toxic mold, will at some point eat away and destroy the material on which it is growing. This means that your floorboards, drywall or other surfaces will eventually be ruined. In addition, mold can cause a musty odor in the air that is hard to get rid of, so home buyers need to think about mold carefully when purchasing a home. Living in a home where this type of mold is present is detrimental to the health and well-being of individuals. The reason that mold is so dangerous is that it is technically a fungus. A fungus will produce airborne spores that will float around your home until they find a moist place. Once they find this type of ideal setting, they will begin to grow on their own. Mold also produces a byproduct called mycotoxins, which can promote breathing problems such as asthma in anyone that has an existing respiratory problem. Even if you are perfectly healthy, being exposed to mold can lead to respiratory problems after prolonged exposure. Needless to say, living with mold is not advisable. Although mold can have a very identifiable smell, it can also remain completely unobserved by a homeowner until after members of the household begin to have health problems. It can also be a challenge to identify a mold problem when you are viewing a home before purchase. You can have a home tested before buying to ensure that there is no health issue. If a home is older, you should definitely have it tested before you buy. If mold is found in the home, you can still purchase the house, but you first need to insist that the property is professionally treated for the problem. You can have the issue addressed in the contract and if there remains a problem, you will not be legally obligated to buy. If only a minor mold problem is found, the affected areas need to be washed in soap and water and then disinfected with a bleach solution. This will prevent the threat from spreading. After you move into the house, keep all damp areas ventilated to prevent infiltration. If an area is subjected to a water leak, clean the water spill as quickly as possible. If needed, utilize a dehumidifier to control dampness. These steps can reduce the amount of mold growth in your home.
