Bowling has been a sport growing in popularity for the past few years. A component contributing to its steadily growing groups of bowlers are the fine differences that separate an amateur from a professional. Similar to poker, this is a sport that has grown exponentially and is still growing stronger. From the pin placements, shoes, clothes, and the bowling ball, there are many different factors that can alter the throw direction and strength. There are many comprehensive guides available either through the internet or hardcopy books that outline the many different types of throws and stances; however there are not many guides about the actually bowling ball itself. Unlike hockey, baseball, or basketball, bowling is a sport that often requires a bowling ball to be customized to each player rather then one generic fit for all. It is important to first learn about a bowling ball before stepping out onto your lane. After a few trips to the bowling alley it is not uncommon to have an urge to purchase your very own bowling ball. Bowling balls are quite cheap ranging from 40 to 200 dollars; professional bowlers often have different balls for different situations. Owning a personal bowling ball can do wonders for your game. A personal bowling ball can be customized and drilled to the exact specifications to your own fingers. A custom drilled bowling ball will ease your tosses and lessen any possible fatigue which will prolong your game limits. If possible, stay away from generic sized bowling balls and bring your personalized bowling ball whenever possible. A personal bowling ball will help your bowling game. A personal bowling ball will be customized in every aspect to perfectly suit needs. The total weight of the ball can be chosen or altered to your liking, having the right weight will reduce any chance of injury. Customized finger holes are the biggest advantage of having your very own bowling ball. Perfect finger depths will allow a better throw, release, and finger placement. Finger placement is very important, having your ball holes drilled will help avoid any possible strains, blisters, or muscle pulling. Personal bowling balls can help develop a natural, untainted release. Bowing balls by weight can range from 4 to 20 pounds. Finding the correct bowling ball weight is a strange process. When bowling with public bowling balls at a ally way, you may notice yourself using light weight balls. You will find yourself using lighter weight balls because of the generic finger holes. The discomfort will force you to use lighter balls as a method to gain better control. It’s a rule of thumb to customize your bowling ball to be approximately 2 to 3 pounds heavier then your public balls. The customized holes will allow easier grip which will make the bowling ball seem lighter then it really is. Choosing the right type of bowling ball is vital in anybody’s bowling game. Similar to golfing and golfing clubs, bowling has many different styles and to accompany these different styles there are different types of bowling balls. Straight bowlers should try using urethane or polyester balls as they are most likely to follow a straight direction. Beginners also have the option of adopting reactive balls which are the easiest type to control. In most cases hook balls are used to attempt strikes while straight balls are used for spares. This is because hook balls have a high tendency to strike just because the way they are thrown; however they are much more sensitive and harder to control. There are four types of bowling balls, plastic, urethane, reactive resin, and particle which all have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Polyester bowling balls often referred to as plastic bowling balls are the most common. They are built to have low friction which allows the balls to follow a more linear trajectory. The plastic balls linear trajectory is why they are commonly preferred by beginners and new bowlers. Plastic bowling balls are the oldest type created in the 1960, and have the lowest prices compared to the other types, urethane, reactive resin, and particle. Polyester bowling balls are used primarily by beginners but certain professionals still prefer to use these types when shooting for spares. Urethane bowling balls were created after the polyester ball in the 1970s. Urethane balls were created because of the discovery of hook shots. The urethane balls were created because of their higher friction, they can be more easily thrown into hook shots then polyester bowling balls. Cost wise they are more expensive; however they will help your hook shot game. Compared to other bowling balls, the urethane material is very easy to clean and maintain. The third type of bowling ball that was created after the polyester and urethane is the reactive resin in the 1900s. The reactive resin bowling balls were created by inserting additional resin particles to the urethane bowling balls. The resin particles had yet again increased the friction and are preferred for bigger hook throwing. For the majority of mid to experienced bowlers, the reactive resin bowling balls are preferred for its friction and control. Reactive resin based bowling balls also use a type of oil base to increase the strength which allows for more power. The most recent type of bowling ball created is the particle style bowling ball. The particle bowling ball is a mixture of the control given from urethane balls and the strength given by reactive resin balls. The amount of particles used to create the particle balls vary from ball to ball. The amount used greatly alters the friction and the hook speeds and bend. To accommodate all lane conditions, bowling manufacturers are experimenting with different amounts to suit every type of lane. Bowling balls make a big difference in anybody’s bowling game. From the choosing the right weight, customizing your finger holes, and choosing the material your bowling ball can be made out of (polyester, urethane, reactive resin, and particle) are all factors that will greatly affect your game. Choosing and purchasing and customizing a bowling ball is not something that can be accomplished in a days time. Be patient, and take things slow, a bowling ball is a long term investment that can cost quite a bit. Be sure when purchasing your bowling ball as you will be using it to strike for years to come.
