One way I have found that encourages children to create new sports is to offer them the tools near their homes. I remember when my son decided to give trampoline basketball hoops a try. We had a trampoline; we had a basket ball hoop; the rest came naturally. Safety - as always - was a concern of mine, but after I insisted on helmets, I felt more secure. Yes, there were a lot of bumps and bruises, and I was actually worried my trampoline would give out with all that weight. Yet, watching three teenage boys wrestling on a trampoline trying to get the basketball was definitely something I enjoyed. Of course, my boys decided to take it a step further. After my son convinced me he would simply die if he did not have a personal trampoline for Christmas, he got his trampoline. I was relatively happy that this trampoline did not cost as much as some of the other presents I had gotten him in the past. Well, what they did what that inexpensive present simply amazed me. First, they set up the trampoline in front of the basketball hoop, and then they proceeded to run, bounce off the trampoline, and do slam dunks nonstop for hours on end. This was a great method of entertaining teenagers for a long time. Today, my son still pulls out the trampoline and him and his friends play a round or two of trampoline basketball hoops.
