Treadmill Belt: Tips On Replacing It

A treadmill is made of many components, but the most important one is the treadmill belt. Sometimes, after much use, it needs to get replaced. So, if you notice that your treadmill belt looks worn or torn and you get less results when using it, then it is time for a replacement.

You will need to perform a check up before getting with the replacement of the belt.

1. First, check the treadmill deck for signs of wear and tear, maybe you just need to wax it a little.

2. When the deck looks as bad as the belt, then consider replacing them both.

3. Check the belt, as well. When the deck looks fine, you will only need to replace the belt. Check out our instructions on how to do that.

Make sure that you have unplugged the power cord and removed the motor cover before making the replacement. The belt is kept under tension by a set of screws, and you will need to loosen them.

The front roller needs to be taken out, as well. Just power a little the engine, so the roller gets moving, and you will be able to replace it.

A convenient way to replace the old belt is to cut the old one. But, if you succeed in taking the belt out in one piece, it can serve you as a model when you put the new one. Loosen the screws that keep the deck in place and raise the deck and the old belt. Use lubricant or wax for the deck.

You will see a seam on the old belt, and you can use it as a mark for getting the new belt in place. The same seam appears on the new part, and, if the manufacturer had this in mind, an arrow will point in the direction in which the belt should move.

Ensure the proper alignment when you put the belt on the deck. After that, take both the belt and the deck and place them on the treadmill. Now you can screw back the bolts. You may need to force a little the first move, as the deck tends to get warped. A good tip is to put the rollers first, and then the deck.

Pay attention while you pull the belt to the rear of the machine. You will have to slide the roller, so you need to adjust the screws a little. Once you do that with success, you will just need to replace the drive motor belt and then tighten the roller with the screws.

It is time for a test. Turn the machine on and see if the belt starts to move. Step on it, but grab the side rails for balance. If the belt stops right away, it is a clear sign that you have to tighten the screws more and repeat the test.

In order to check the performances of the belt, you need to increase the speed and run some tests as previously showed. If the belt shows any signs of hesitation or anything else, then you need to adjust the belt more until it does not slip anymore.

Caution is advised. Instead of putting yourself to the risk, hire a professional. But if you are more of a hands on kind of fellow, then you can use these guidelines to do it yourself.
