Treatments using Biotin Vitamin
|
Biotin and Its Characteristics Biotin is more commonly known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H. Biotin is a major vitamin in the process of building up food into protoplasm and breaking down protoplasm into either less complex substances or waste matter. During this process Biotin also aids the release of energy for all major organs. Sources of Biotin Biotin is found in a variety of foods including liver, egg yolk, yeast and soy. It is also found in the human gut where it exists in the "good bacteria". Therefore in the developed world, where people have a good diet, it is rare to find anyone with a deficiency in biotin. However, occasionally it does occur and symptoms include poor growth and baldness. In serious cases the baldness can include the eyebrows and lashes. Egg white, if eaten raw and on a regular basis, will attach itself to the biotin and prevent the body gaining access to the biotin. A slight deficiency of biotin sometimes occurs in pregnancy or in those people suffering from diabetes type 2. Athletes and sportsmen/women also very occasionally have a slight deficiency, as can alcoholics. To alleviate this condition vitamin supplements should be taken. As a general rule most people's diet contains all the biotin that is required for a healthy life so additional supplements are not normally necessary. There is no adequate intake recommended across all countries. It has been found in testing that the vitamin biotin is not toxic. Even when large doses were consumed no serious adverse response was noted. Vitamins often work in conjunction with each other and biotin is no exception. Vitamin B5, as well as most vitamins in the "B" family are the ones biotin works best with. Biotin and Its Uses Biotin has been successfully used in the treatment of a number of complaints: Type 2 Diabetes enjoys a greater stability of blood sugar with the use of biotin Seborrheic dermatitis more commonly known as cradle cap as it is often seen in babies has been found to benefit from biotin supplements. Muscle cramps and poor muscle function has, on occasions, been found to be caused by low levels of biotin. This is because biotin is vital in the support of the nervous system and aids the release of energy to different parts of the body. Weak nails have been found to improve when taking biotin supplements orally. Any product containing biotin and which is to be used on the outside of the body, for example on the nails, hair or skin, cannot be expected to work as it is not easy for biotin to be absorbed in that way. The results after taking biotin for hair loss treatment have been very good. Both men and women have reported successes. However, high doses do have to be taken. Vitamin B7 has also been successful in halting the onset of gray hair in those who have low levels of biotin. About The Author: |
