Troubleshooting the Powis Parker Fastback 9 - Error Messages



One of the great things about the PowisParker Fastback 9 binding machine is that if there is a problem, itprovides you with an error message to help you figure out what iswrong. This article is designed to list the most common error messages,possible causes and potential solutions. Using this article you shouldbe able to do some basic troubleshooting of your machine and hopefullywill find a simple solution to your problem. Here are some of the errormessages you might encounter:

Error Message: "INSERT BOOK"

  • Thismessage can be caused if you press the bind button on the machinewithout inserting a book into the binding recess of the Fastback 9. Puta book into the machine and try pressing the bind button again.
  • Thismessage can also be caused if the sheets of your document are not fullyjustified against the right side of the binding recess. To fix thisproblem, tap the edges of your sheets until the book is flush againstthe right side of the binding recess.
  • This message can alsobe displayed if the book sensor is damaged or not functioning properly.If this is the case, you will need to contact your Powis Dealer andarrange a service call to replace the sensor.

Error Message: "USE SMALLER SIZE"

  • Thiserror message is most commonly displayed if your strip is too wide forthe number of sheets placed in the binding recess of the Fastback 9.You can either add more sheets or use a narrower strip.
  • Thismessage can also be caused if you forget the fold your LX binding stripat a 90 degree angle before inserting it into the machine. If this isthe case simply fold your strip and attempt the binding cycle again.
  • Thismessage will also be displayed if the strip and the contents of yourbook are not properly lined up at the back of the binding recess. Checkto make sure that the contents of your book and the strip are pushedall the way back in the machine.

Error Message: "BOOK TOO THICK"

  • Thiserror message is displayed if you are trying to bind too many sheets ofpaper with the medium strip. You will need to reduce the thickness ofthe book by removing some sheets. The Fastback 9 is limited toapproximately a 1 inch capacity using a medium LX strip.

Error Message: "USE MEDIUM SIZE"

  • Thiserror message can occur if you try and bind too many sheets with anarrow strip. You can either remove some sheets or use a narrow LXstrip instead.
  • You might also get this error message ifthere is no strip in the binding recess and you press the bind button.The machine will measure your document and tell you what type of stripyou need to use.

Error Message: "USE NARROW SIZE"

  • Thiserror message can occur if you try to bind too few sheets with a mediumstrip. You can either add some sheets or use a narrow strip.
  • Youmight also see this message if you insert a document into the bindingrecess and press the bind button without inserting a strip. The machinewill measure the document and tell you what size of strip you will needto use.

Error Message: "REVERSE STRIP"

  • Thismessage is displayed if you attempt to bind a document with a stripinserted backwards. You need to make sure that the short end of thestrip is vertical and the long end is flat.

Error Message: "MACHINE ERROR XX"

  • Thisseries of errors is designed to tell you that your machine needstechnical attention. Try turning your machine off and then back on. Ifthe error still persists you will need to contact your Powis Parkerdealer and set up a service call.
