When a couple decides that they do not want any children and that there is no need for additional measures for avoiding conception, there are two solutions. The man can have a vasectomy or the woman can have her tubes tied. The vasectomy and the tubal ligation are both safe and there is no need to worry about the outcome of the surgical procedures. The big difference is between the complexity. While the man having a vasectomy only experiences a cut under the skin in the doctors office, the woman must experience a surgical intervention in a hospital room, where she is cut on the belly, so the doctors can go inside and tie the tubes. The male vasectomy has been a subject of debate over the last years, as some studies showed that this intervention can determine an increased risk of prostate cancers. On the other hand, more recent studies showed that this risk is not influenced by vasectomy. The first studies were carried on two groups of men, where one group included men that had vasectomies done on their bodies, while the men from the other group had not. A fact was taken into consideration: that the men with vasectomies had sex more often than the others, because they would have not considered having a vasectomy if they had not been sexually active. The mistake done by the scientists was to not take into consideration other factors that can cause a certain condition. For instance, in this case, the increase in sexual activity was not taken into consideration. Other studies have shown that men having a highly active sex life tend to develop prostate cancer more than the others, but even these conclusions are not endorsed by doctors. The studies tried to show that the men that had their first intercourse very early in life, that had many partners and experienced many orgasms are more likely to be affected by prostate cancer. On the other hand, men with vasectomies tend to have sex without using protection, meaning condoms, which means that they can be victims to venereal diseases that relate to prostate cancer. Here are some facts about vasectomy. The procedure involves the cutting of the spermatic cord so the sperm does not get carried through the penis. Under the cut made by the doctor, the prostate and the seminal vesicles still supply the ejaculatory fluid. A man should know that he will not suffer a change in his hormonal level. Some measures of precaution must be taken after the vasectomy. Some sperm may remain in the ejaculatory fluid and it is recommended that the man that had the vasectomy does not have sex without protection anti pregnancy for about six months. Some verifications are done after the intervention, but it seems that this is the safe period, after all.
