Types of DVD Player

r>For new DVD player buyers it cannot be a better time to buy a DVD player than now. With the increasing amount of manufacturers that is capable of making standard DVD players, the price of these players dramatically dropping. Couple of years back just purchasing a standard DVD player will cost you around $200 minimum but now you are able to purchase one just under $50. But on top of that you are going to get more than the $200 player with your $50 one. They are now able to play other formats other than CDs and DVD; they can now play MP3s and CD-RW. But if there other feature you are hoping to have with your new DVD players? There are now plenty of other choices on top of these standard DVD players.

If you already own a high-definition television (HDTV) then a standard DVD player may not be putting your HDTV to its full capabilities. As with a HDTV you are capable of getting an even better image with a better DVD player. HDTV can output close to six times more picture information allowing for a more detail image. To take advantage of this feature on HDTV, then a progressive-scan DVD player will be the only DVD player that will provide the cleaner picture. The reason why standard DVD players are not able to provide the same image is because the before HDTV came out there were only and still majority of us own analog TV. For this reason standard DVD players are equipped with a converter that converts the signals from digital to analog. But this problem can be easily solved by purchasing a digital video interface. This is basically a direct signal from the DVD player to the HDTV producing the cleanest image possible.

Many people have no made the leap over to DVD because of the VHS tapes. They want to make the leap but they also want to have the best of both worlds. Luckily DVD manufacturers have combined DVD and VHS into one system. Though it may be a bit pricier than the normal DVD players but it allows you to keep your VHS instead of either converting them to DVD or buying them in DVD versions. The combo also produces better images off the VHS tapes than normal VHS players. And the combo ultimately answers the problem DVD players often face by VHS loyalist. With the combo they allow you to easily record you favorite TV shows.

Newer models of DVD players are now capable of making VHS obsolete forever. Unlike standard DVD players, you can buy a DVD player that is able to record shows off the TV. But this DVD player/recorder is still very expensive compared to the standard players, with a starting price of $350 currently. The problem with DVD recorder currently is the complicating formats you must keep in mind when you want to record shows off the TV. For new DVD users it may cause serious confusion with the different formats such as DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW. Unless you use a computer on a regular basis and deal with DVDs, then it will take some time to figure out. But DVD recorder is actually more efficient than VHS recorders. We all know how VHS tapes will eventually wear out as you record over and over again. But with DVDs that are in the formats of DVD-RW and DVD+RW, they are capable of being rewritten over 1,000 times with no problem. Also the quality of the picture being recorded off the TV will be much better on DVD than VHS.

DVD player technology have advanced so much that, we are now capable of bringing a DVD player with us wherever we go. Portable DVD players are now becoming more and more popular with the general public. The idea of being able to bring DVD along with you and watch it during a long road trip just seems too good to pass up on. Since portable DVD players are equipped with a folding LCD screen that usually ranges from 5-9 inches. But they generally don't weigh that much allowing the user to take it on camping trip if necessary. But since portable DVD players are still relatively new out in the market, the price for one is around $400. But it would not be surprising if the prices for the portal DVD players start to drop very soon as more and more manufacturers are beginning to produce these portables.

For those who are buying a DVD for the first time ever, it could either be a breeze or just days of being confused by sales reps. We all hear about what wonders these DVD players can do, but it is okay if you are confused at first. But no matter what DVD players you buy it will generally be worth its cost as the lower end DVD players are not that bad in quality. Standard DVD players can be the only player you need and not a progressive-scanning DVD player. As standard DVD players do give you a lot of options for the money you got it for. But progressive-scanning DVD players are currently not that expensive too.
