Types of Deck Rails
|
If you want your deck to portray the atmosphere and image you imagined then you better put some thought into the entire project. 1. PlexiglasThis is one of the nicest options and it lasts longer than either wood or vinyl. It looks sharp, provides a view, and if you have kids you never have to worry about the little tykes squeezing through a rail. 2. WoodWood is the most common railing. Its generally not too creative but board widths can be varied. The benefit to wood is it can create a great deal of privacy where as Plexiglas cannot. A nice wide cap on the top makes this a sturdy deck for anyone to stand by. 3. IronThese railings look wonderful and they can create quite an ambiance. The biggest problem is they are not safe if there are small children around or anyone that has a balance problem. Young child also like the challenge of trying to fit through the cracks. Nothing will outlive wrought iron and it always maintains its beauty. Iron however does not protect you from the elements of Mother Nature. 4. LatticeCan look railing looking wonderful especially in a country setting with grape vines, ivy, or even morning glory entwined through the lattice and it creates a very private setting with a very special ambiance. 5. VinylThese sturdy decks come in a variety of colors and they last at least 3 times longer than wood does. They never splinter or split and they look exceptionally nice. Your railing is rather like your inside accessories. Its what people notice when they step onto the deck. The railing you choose will easily set an ambiance and you can add the finishing touches with something as simple as a plant. The type of railing you choose depends a great deal on where your deck is located. On the second floor Plexiglas might be the best choice especially if you have a view that you dont want to miss out on. On the other hand if you have neighbor thats just too close for comfort a wood railing can assure total privacy. So can lattice if you have the greenery to make it happen. So dont just choose a rail put some thought into it and choose your perfect rail. With so many deck rails to choose from it shouldnt be a problem at all.
