Undercounter Clam Sink: Why Everyone Wants One

A sink is a versatile and necessary part of any kitchen and usually a bathroom. However, deciding which type of sink you should us is a task in itself. Of course, then you have a choice of what you want for aesthetic purposes. There are so many choices of styles, colors, and types that by the time I named them all there would be new ones to keep me going indefinitely. However, I do have my favorite: the undercounter clam sink. Perhaps this almost invisible sink is my favorite because it is so unique.

There are normal sink that are flush with the counter top and a small lip on the top of the counter. Then there are overcounter sinks. These sinks have a very large lip, sometimes up to 6 inches, over the counter surface. Then finally there are undercounter sinks. These sinks are underneath the surface of the countertop. Usually, they sink is flush with the bottom of the countertop, but this is not necessarily the case. The front of the undercounter sinks can be on the inside of the counter hidden by a front. Nevertheless, an increasingly large number of people are choosing undercounter sinks that even the front side of the sink is on the outer part of the counter. Usually, these types of sinks have a highly decorative design.

When you shop for your sink, always look at the construction of the sink. There are many types of materials used in the fabrication of sinks. But the most popular fabrication materials are metallic ones (steel, cast iron, copper, brass or a combination of these metals), stone, enameled metal, and composites such as quartz and acrylic. All fabrication materials have benefits. The undercounter clam sinks are usually made of molded composites. This makes for a beautiful, natural feel to the sink. Where you shop may have many sinks that will fit your style and taste. However, remember that the retailers can usually special order you one of your own taste and style, one that is unique to you for little, to no extra money. Retailers want your business and they are willing to bend over backwards to offer you what you desire.

Another option is to create your own sink. Many people enjoy fabricating their own sink from materials purchased, found, borrowed, or scrounged for just for this occasion. Making a sink may seem easy and simplistic but it can be quite difficult. If you are going to attempt to create your own sink for either the bathroom or the kitchen, I strongly suggest you make plans and create something smaller first. Many people choose to create a sink out of stone. Yes, stone is actually a very good building material. Often, you can have special orders created by specialty shops that are your own design.

Whatever you choose, your decision will be best suited for your use if you know exactly what to expect. Undercounter clam sinks are beautiful and add a touch of class to a bathroom or kitchen. However, they may not be as common as many other sinks. These beauties will soon catch on and take the home decoration world by storm.
