Use Halogen Lamps In Your Home Office

Your home office is the place where you'll work, surf the web, deal with clients, answer the phone, read your mail, and a host of other office tasks. Proper lighting is an integral part of your home office and you should consider using halogen lamps.

Your office should be comfortable and pleasant and provide you with adequate lighting to complete your tasks without eye strain. You should combine task lighting with general lighting to keep your room free of glare and harsh contrast. Accent lighting also adds a nice touch to accent a favorite piece.

Your general lighting can be made up of ceiling fixtures, tourchiere lamps, floor lamps with adjustable goose necks, and table lamps. The three in one tourchieres work very well providing 2 adjustable lights and one the main light that bounces off the ceiling. For the correct light displacement your ceiling needs to be white.

Your task lighting should be accomplished with a good desk lamp. There are several different styles so pick one that works for your style of work. Some are small and focused while others are larger with a more diffused light that covers more area.

You might also consider more than one desk lamp depending on the size of your desk and work area. Goose necks work well allowing you to easily adjust the lighting to where you need it. Dual bulb lamps are a good choice for center desk locations.

You might be wondering what halogen bulbs are all about. Well let's explain. Normal light bulbs are a large thin glass with a gas like argon in the inside of the bulb with a tungsten filament. The electricity heats the filament to 4,500 degrees Fahrenheit and because the tungsten metal is so hot it glows producing the visible light we associate with the bulb. This is incandescent lighting.

These types of bulbs last about 750 hours so they aren't really efficient and they also radiate more heat than they do light so this is wasted energy.

A halogen bulb still uses a tungsten filament which is encased inside a quartz envelope. The gas is from a different group of gasses and it creates a great deal more heat than an incandescent bulb. This extra heat is what causes the bright white light which is so efficient . The halogen bulb also lasts a lot longer because of the gas recycling that occurs in the sealed quartz envelope.

This makes halogen a much brighter and functional lighting and it also makes it more cost effective because the bulbs last so much longer. Halogen lamps work great as both task and accent lighting and just as with traditional bulbs there are different bulb wattages with halogen. You can even use a dimmer with halogen bulbs although it may shorten the bulb's life expectancy slightly.

Halogen lighting is very affordable and if you shop online you'll get some even better deals saving yourself as much as 50% off of store prices. And with so much selection you're bound to find the perfect halogen lamps for your home office.
