Using A Pressure Washer On Boats

Washing a boat may seem like a long daunting task, but with the right equipment it can be quick easy and simple. I would highly recommend purchasing a pressure washer to clean your boat. Pressure washers have the power to clean of dirt and grime in a small amount of time, and it does not damage the boat. Pressure washers can be either gas or electric, and can do a great job cleaning boats, wheels, cars, patios, and even concrete. When using a pressure washer you should always have the area prepared for washing. When preparing your boat, make sure your dock is okay with you washing your boat as certain docks have strict rules. You should put away any obstructing objects on board and any loose items which include electric cords.

Before presser washing your boat, remember to secure all loose items, close all doors and hatches. Usually the preparation process is very time consuming, only because the boat has not been maintained for long periods of time. Avoid this, by swiping off any unnecessary items off the deck and get into a habit of cleaning. There is not set time between every wash; however, it is generally accepted to use the pressure washer bi-weekly meaning every two weeks. This is to of course clean off any thing that can damage the paint or condition of the boat. This is usually constituted of grime, bird droppings, and of course salt.

Just before using your pressure washer, do in final sweep of the area. Make sure you will have enough area to move around and hit all the areas. If there is no space to store items, you may want to consider cleaning half the deck followed by the other. Be careful to work in a good direction to avoid tracking dirt onto already cleaned areas. The pressure washer produces a very strong current of water; I would highly recommend avoiding cleaning with large groups of people. The pressure is strong enough to peal away at your skin, so be careful. A good idea is to make a check list to save time on future preparation.

Using the pressure washer is very easy. The process is simple shoot and clean, but there are a few tricks to learn. Generally you should start from the top and work your way down, this way you will not get any clean areas dirty again. When spraying either the deck or the sides of the boat, you will want to get as much as a 90 degree area as possible. Before spraying your boat, apply a cleaner and let it soak for approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Your cleaner should be environmentally friendly the residue will end up in the water.

The cleaner used to accompany the pressure washer should be chosen carefully. There are specially made cleaners for marine use and only these should be used on your boat. Choosing the correct cleaner will help prolong the life of your pressure washer, as well as do a good job cleaning off the boat. Included with the pressure washer is usually an instruction manual. Check the manual for recommended cleaners, these would be best to use. Also there are specifically made cleaners for different surfaces, research your boat and determine which one would be best.

Pressure washing boats is a good way to clean them off. They are very powerful and can do the job in small amount of time. Preparing your boat for pressure washing is a time consuming job, but if you created a checklist the process will run a little smoother. I would recommend using the pressure washer once every two weeks, and should only be used with environmentally friendly cleaners.
