West of Brisbane



The inner west suburbs of the city follow the Brisbane River upstream and with an eclectic mix of houses, subtropical greenery and steep hills; it is here that you will experience the essence of Brisbane living. Many of the old houses have been restored and most have expansive decks and verandahs, perfect for Brisbanes all year round outdoor lifestyle. The suburbs of Paddington. Red Hill and Milton, closest to the CBD are full of busy caf strips, bars, and clubs and up market shops.

Toowong; St Lucia and Taringa are home to an interesting mix of professionals enjoying riverside life and students studying at the nearby University of Queensland. With one of Queenslands many unusual names, the suburb of Indooroopilly is home to one of the biggest shopping centres in Brisbane- Indooroopilly Shopping Centre .On your way to the many attractions in the west; take a detour through some of these western suburbs to see the best of Brisbane.

Milton is home to many fine establishments including both the XXX Brewery and the legendary Lang Park sportsground.  Park Road is a lively street full of fun.  Enjoy the restaurants, cafes and upscale shops, booutiques and markets.  Rosalie is nearby and while a much smaller suburb, it too is home to great restaurants and shopping.  Freestyle Tout is a must see when traveling through this area.  It is an all-dessert restaurant that is the perfect cure for any sweet tooth.

The Castlemaine Perkins XXXX Brewery is an iconic Queensland landmark.  The beer is iconic on it's own, but the actual brewery has been operating since 1878.  Those living nearby are used to the occasional smell beer brewing as the wind carries it by.  Tours of the Brewery are about an hour long and end with a deluxe sampling of the XXXX beer in the Ale House Bar.

The streets of Paddington, a hilly inner city suburb are lined with Queenslanders, many lovingly restored. You could easily spend a lazy day shopping, browsing and eating here. Caxton Street, at Petrie Terrace end of Paddington has a couple of pubs and a variety of bars and restaurants. Given Terrace has excellent restaurants, cafs and antique shops, lovely views of the city and the popular Paddington Tavern (better known as the Paddo).Some of Brisbanes oldest public buildings are to be found in Paddington (first settled in 1859),especially on Given Terrace and Latrobe Terrace, which also form the suburbs main commercial strip.
