What Kind Of Negative Entries Can Be Removed With Credit Repair?

Many people ask us what kind of entries a credit repair agency can remove from their credit report. This is an important question because those seeking credit repair solutions should know what to expect from such services. There are no magic solutions to credit problems and though negative entries can be removed from your credit report legally, not all of them can be removed without time or money.

Negative entries on your credit history are reported to credit bureaus by creditors. Thus, the reasons for their appearance are basically three: The first one is an actual delinquency: you pay late, miss a payment, your vehicle or home is repossessed, you declare bankruptcy, you receive a negative court judgment, etc. The second one is a mistake from the creditor that mixes up names, payment or debts and reports a delinquency that is non existent. The third one is a similar error made by the credit bureau that usually makes mistakes only by mixing up names.

Legitimate Entries, Illegitimate Entries

Given the above explanation, it is possible to categorize entries on your credit report with two tags: legitimate entries and illegitimate entries. Those entries that are legitimate, that correspond to delinquencies that you actually committed and thus are responsible for, cannot be removed other than by paying what you owe and letting time go by so your credit history renews itself.

Illegitimate entries on the other side, can be easily removed by disputing them with the credit bureau and with the actual creditor that reported it. This can be done on your own if you are confident on dealing with the bureau and you are used to making written claims. Otherwise, you can always hire the services of a credit repair agency that will be able to engage both the credit bureau and the creditor and dispute the entry. The outcome will be that the agency will force the bureau to remove the negative entry and actualize your report to show the correct information.

Type Of Negative Entries That Can Appear On Your Report

The most common negative entries that can appear on your report and that affect your credit score are: missed payments and late payments. It is not uncommon for creditors to make mistakes when reporting this kind of delinquencies. It often happens that due to problems in the processing of information, certain department believes that a bill remains unpaid when you have actually already canceled that bill. Consequently they may report as a late payment or missed payment a sum that was actually cancelled on time.

Other more serious delinquencies that can appear on your report and seldom are reported in error are: court judgments, loan and credit card balances defaults, repossessions, bankruptcies, liens, charge offs, etc. Though these delinquencies are more serious and thus the frequency of mistakes is lower, errors do happen and when they do, they can ruin your credit. Thus, if your credit score is too low, you should analyze your credit report or hire the services of a credit repair agency to make sure that no mistakes where made when reporting entries on your credit history.
