What Makes Climate Controlled Storage Worth It?

So you are considering packing up all of your belongings while you are in between moves, putting them in a warehouse somewhere and taking your wife and kids on a month long vacation? That sounds like a grand adventure, to say the least. The warm sun, the salty sea, and a fresh ocean breeze may be just what the doctor ordered to give your family a vacation that they are not likely to forget.

Before you go jetting off to some tropical island somewhere, basking under the shade of swaying palms, you may want to give a little bit of consideration as to exactly where you are going to put your house full of things while you are away. There are companies that will gladly store your belongings for you, and they can be found on just about every corner, in some neighborhoods. They are tucked neatly away beside burger joints and behind gas stations. Everywhere you look, there is room for you to store your things in, for a fee of course.

Not all of these companies are alike in the services that they offer. Some offer more security than others, as well as other moving accessories that can make your relocation easier. Some are newer and have more amenities such as public restrooms, while others are older, more basic structures. When you are storing your belongings in a rented space, be aware that your things could potentially be exposed to extreme heat or cold temperatures, depending upon what season of year it is and the weather conditions in the area. Your best bet is to make sure that any facility that offers to house your things, whether it is a few boxes of memorabilia, or an entire house full of stuff, offers climate controlled storage .

How does climate controlled storage work? Well, basically it means that either warm or cool air will be pumped into the rented space where your belongings are being held. This creates air flow within the unit. The point is to keep your things from being exposed to extreme temperatures. The thermostats will most likely read somewhere in the vicinity of 55 to 80 degrees. And while you might complain if your living room thermometer read eighty degrees, it is not hot enough to cause damage to your things, just as 55 degrees is not cool enough to freeze them. Your furniture and belongings are not going to be affected by a standard range between 55 and 80 degrees. Consistency is the key with climate controlled storage .

For instance, if there is a heat wave going on outside and it is one hundred degrees in the shade, imagine how stifling and humid the inside of an enclosed steel room that did not offer climate controlled storage would feel. The temperature could well rise up into the 120s or higher. When you factor in the humidity, which can eventually turn into drops of water as condensation, you may be looking at water damage, not to mention warping, possible melting, and cracking of fragile items that may be locked inside. This is why climate controlled storage is necessary. After all, it is not enough to pay someone just to house your belongings, but they must be able to keep them dry, safe and sound. That is what you are paying them for, is it not? Knowing that your belongings are in good hands makes it much easier to go and enjoy that tropical island resort with your family.
