What Should You Expect From Your Child's Kindergarten Class?

All of a sudden you discover your toddler has become a blossoming student to be. Soon they'll fly the nest and be off to explore the wonders of kindergarten. This can be a stressful time for parents and child. But knowing what you should expect from your child's kindergarten class can reduce the anxiety.

Kindergarten should be a time that your children look forward to. It should be exciting, fun, and a learning process that prepares your child for its future years in school.

This is a time when you should see your child's social skills develop. They should be learning how to share, empathize, work in groups, and a host of other social skills that they will need when they begin school.

It will also be a time when your child is taught how to pay attention and stay focused for short periods of time. In kindergarten your child will begin their life long adventure of learning which often has already begun in the home environment.

They will learn to describe and explore their world by drawing. But this is the time they will also learn to read, and write beginning with the alphabet. They will even learn to read and write full sentences. Phonics skills are developed through letter association.

At the level of 5 year olds they will begin to learn about the world, explore science, and begin to express their artistic abilities. They may even have computer time depending on the kindergarten class your child is in and the funding available.

Math skills are also developed at this young age using pattern blocks, counting animals, and other tools designed for this age group. Their learning experience will combine books, hands on, and plenty of teacher interaction.

You'll literally see changes in your child's abilities on a daily basis. They'll amaze you as their little minds explore a bigger world which will prepare them for many future years of learning.

And of course kindergarten isn't just about learning. It's about fun and play too. They'll have lots of scheduled playtime to keep them physically active and burn off energy. They'll also have frequent breaks to ensure boredom doesn't set it.

Your child will learn to understand and like routine. In fact you'll find they perform much better under consistent discipline and routines. They will also love the opportunity to show their independence. Initially you may find them fretting leaving the security of home but it won't be long and they'll be beaming at their new found independence.

During their time at kindergarten you can expect them to be exposed to many of the childhood diseases that are common for that age. It's just a fact of life. They'll also be exposed to more colds and flu's so teach them about washing hands and skills to help keep them healthy.

You are going to see some amazing changes in their development from the beginning of the year to the end. Suddenly they'll be snapping fingers, whistling, winking, writing, and reading and you'll wonder where your baby has gone.

Gone is the key here. For you no longer are responsible for a toddler. Your child has moved into the next level of development seeking guidance and independence, facing challenges and overcoming those challenges. This is a wonderful time in your child's life. Be sure to enjoy and embrace their year in kindergarten.
