What To Look For In A New Baby Stroller
|
Wow! When it comes to baby gear, strollers are certainly found in an exceedingly large choice of shapes, size, features and benefits. When narrowing down the best baby stroller, first consider the sort of baby transportation you desire. Perhaps you have in mind something to move baby and all that gear along the lines of a traditional stroller. It may be wise that having more than 1 stroller is your best bet. A stroller for everyday use and a lighter model for traveling. Here are some basic strollers to choose from. As previously mentioned, there really isn't any end to the various features - and price tags - for baby strollers out there today! Seat-Carrier Frame Strollers Seat carrier models are designed for newborns who can't sit up on their own yet. For that reason, this kind of stroller doesn’t have an adjustable seat. In fact, there’s no seat! It lays flat and purposely designed to carry a child car seat for any strolling you wish to do. No waking up the baby, just transport the car seat straight to the stroller and off you go! Combo Strollers Combination strollers - or Combos - are a stroller and carriage all in one. This sort of baby gear can be used with a brand new infant. They're designed to carry your baby flat in either a bassinet or an infant car seat. In theory, you can use this sort of stroller from birth up through the toddler years. (It supports around forty pounds). And when the baby gets older, you can use the adjustable seat attachment for just the right sitting configuration. These strollers tend to get rather expensive though costing up to $900. But for this high dollar price tag you get plenty of options such as additional storage space for extra baby gear and large canopies for weather protection. Travel System Strollers For traveling, these units are great! Babies who aren’t capable of sitting up can be moved right in their car seat, which securely fastens to the stroller. When it’s time to return to the automobile, simply remove the seat off the stroller and snap it into the automobile’s safety belt system. Very convenient! Old School Baby Buggies These ‘old school’ kinds of strollers are still in use today. They typically have spoked wheels and lots of room for baby and for baby gear. These buggies are ideal for newborns and a few carriages have removable 'carrying cots'. The not-so-good news is that carriages are pretty big, cumbersome and not overly maneuverable. They're particularly awkward to use in crowed city locations where you will encounter quite a few obstacles to contend with. Still, if ‘old fashion’ is your preference, these units are big and roomy and provide a touch nostalgia for the olden days. Traditional Baby Strollers Traditional strollers are in are in a class that has a bit of everything. Traditional strollers vary from lightweight models all the way to massive, industrial-strength models. The ‘ironman’ models are designed heavy-duty with cavernous storage compartments and plenty of room. They have built-in shock absorbers on all four wheels and are manufactured to withstand plenty of punishment. But they are bulky. Yes, they are sturdy and stable, but rather massive. There are numerous features found in traditional strollers like snack trays, lots of baby gear storage, one-handed folding capabilities, and adjustable seating. These are really all-in-1 models and might be designed to work with bassinets and car seats. But they do have a tendency to be a touch on the bulky side so traveling with them is more of a task. Umbrella Strollers Since the handles on these strollers resemble those found on an umbrella, they are aptly named. Umbrella strollers are extraordinarily light-weight and very convenient for traveling. Most umbrella strollers fold easily but the ride can be a touch rough (depending on the terrain). They make an excellent 2nd stroller and the price is very inexpensive. All-Terrain Strollers While on the topic of terrain, we tend to enjoy taking our babies EVERYWHERE we tend to go! Including off the beaten path. This can be where an all-terrain stroller earns its keep. These strollers are heavy duty and can take the punishment thanks to extra-large bicycle-like tires. And yes, the tires are inflatable! Plus there are only 3 of them. Riding on air smooths out those bumpy ‘off road’ treks. Plus they're capable of handling heavier cargo that makes them ideal for ‘larger’ babies and also when you’re transporting extra baby gear. Jogging strollers Since we include our babies in many of our activities, we need a stroller that is as mobile as we are. You can buy strollers specially made for active parents who desire to include their babies with them on their jogs. A jogging stroller is a three-wheeled device with huge, air-filled tires. These strollers have extra long handles that positions the stroller a little further in front of the runner so jogging legs have ample space to run and not be hindered by the stroller frame. Safety options on this type of stroller come with a front brake and a wrist strap so everything stays under control at all times. This is very important. Their rugged design allows the stroller to travel cross-country the same as an all-terrain stroller. There are a great deal of baby stroller features to fit in with your specific lifestyle. From traditional carriages, all-in-one travel units, light-weight umbrella strollers and extra hardy baby strollers for on-the-go families, you’re sure to find the correct baby stroller to enhance your individual style and baby transportation needs.
