What You Should Know about Calcium Fertilizer
|
There are more than 2 million urban trees that die each year when the freezing temperatures take hold and there are many studies underway to determine better methods of protecting these trees. One study has shown that fertilizing with calcium nitrate at the end of the summer season can do a great deal to improve survival rates. For years studies have been ongoing with a variety of different types of fertilizers. What recent studies have shown is that trees fertilized with calcium become much more tolerant of colder temperatures when they have been fertilized with calcium. In fact when given adequate amounts even the leaves became less sensitive to the cold.So one would have to conclude that if it works that well for trees it would work well for other plants in your garden and that would be an excellent conclusion. Just recently a Liquid Calcium version has hit the market which is great for all your other plants. Liqui-Cal 8-0-0-8 reduces the density of the soil and increases the pore space. You can mix it with nitrogen if you like or add a herbicide for total care. It's great choice for your soybeans, wheat, tobacco, cotton, potatoes, sugar beets, peanuts, and even your flowers. Cal Serve is another liquid solution that is very economical to use. It has 17% chloride and 10% calcium and it also has an organic chelating agent. You can add a nitrogen mix if you like. It works well on your soybeans, wheat, tobacco, cotton, potatoes, sugar beets, peanuts, and even your flowers. There are many benefits to using Calcium. When calcium fertilizer is used it lowers the pH of the soil reducing the toxicity of the soil. If it is applied beyond the requirements it will stimulate the ammonium absorption by plants by as much as 100%. Some of the ammonium is changed to nitrate so the precipitated calcium gets resolubilized which increases the amount of calcium available for use in the soil. Photosynthesis increases and the amount of carbon dioxide captured by the plants is also increased. If you use a soluble calcium to stimulate plant growth you will see remarkable improvements in the survival rates of your plants through the winter but don't stop there, using it throughout the year will yield you impressive results through the growing season. In fact you can expect a considerable increase in yield from your garden. There are many different fertilizers on the market in a variety of different mixes. There are also organic fertilizers available. Everyone has their own preferences and their own beliefs about what works best. You may have to do some experimenting to discover the right fertilizer for your soil and plant type but by including calcium fertilizer in the mix you can't go wrong.
