You also stand at a risk of being banned from certain forums as they may treat promotion and marketing on their site as spam.
You can also opt for a free link exchange with sites and get many inbound links, this is also called back linking. The disadvantage in this case, though, is that you will need to invest your time in finding sites that are ready to exchange links with you, and in addition to that, you will have to place a back link to this site. An alternative might be trading inbound links, because it is easier to find sites that will place your link for some cost, but naturally you will need to pay for a link each month, which is not a good venture when considered but for when you have found a very good web-site, associated with your product itself.

These are just some of the ways in which you can get links to and from your website for SEO purposes. One of the cheapest ways to promote your site and get links to your page is to create a blog. This can be posted directly onto your website and you can get someone to write posts for you every so often about things that relate to your website. There are ways with this that you can ping larger blog sites that are affiliated with Google and Yahoo, so that they will find out about your blog. Be sure you have all the correct information on your blog and a clear link to your website.
