Doesn’t everybody hate the frequent visits to the dentists? As you get older, the situation doesn’t matter, you still have to take care of your teeth. Your mouth is part of your body, it needs to stay healthy as well. Having healthy and clean teeth will keep you away from the dentist for a longer time. However, that doesn’t mean it is a reason for you to avoid the dentist at all costs! It is excellent to visit your dentist about once a year for a checkup to see if your teeth have any problems just in case. Keeping your teeth clean and fresh can give you that little boost that you were waiting for. Cavities are very popular among children because they are addicted to sugar and sweets. By keeping your children’s teeth and gums healthy, you can prevent cavities from caving in. They are not only for children though, teenagers to adults to the elderly can still get cavities if your mouth is not taken care of. Your mouth usually results in tooth decay when bacteria form into plaque. Plaque is very difficult to get off if you don’t brush well, and then it later leads to cavities. I highly recommend purchasing fluoride toothpaste, it is great for all ages and it helps rid of plaque build-up. If you cavities are that bad, visit your dentist and they will most likely give you a fluoride mouth rinse or gel to use daily. If you don’t brush your teeth well, you have the chance of getting gum diseases without you evening noticing it. You can easily get gum diseases by plaque build-up which will eventually lead to tartar, it is very difficult to brush off. Ever heard of gingivitis? Gingivitis is a form of gum disease, it will leave your mouth swollen, red, and very sensitive and will bleed easily. If your gums are not treated as soon as possible, gingivitis will eventually lead to periodontitis, which forms pockets around your teeth and you will lose the structure of your teeth; that is, it can damage the bones, gums and tissues. To prevent gum diseases, I recommend you brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush, where you can find at any local supermarket. It is best to do small round circles starting at the back of your teeth and working your way to the front slowly. Go back to brush it again to make your teeth extra clean. Remember to gently brush your gum line and tongue because there are always bacteria surfacing. If you are thinking about dental implants, you may want to consult your dentist first to see if your are eligible first, you must have healthy gums and strong jawbone structure. Dental implants are not for everyone. Some people are not use to flossing, but flossing once a day will rid plaque build-up, stuck on food, and keep your gums healthy. Don’t forget to rinse your mouth after your floss. If you happen to bleed after brushing your teeth or flossing, don’t be alarmed, your teeth aren’t used to flossing yet, but if it still continues, go to your dentist immediately. Remember to keep your diet healthy and balanced and do not smoke or any other tobacco products. Oral cancer is becoming quite common when people start hitting the age of 40, if you get constant pain and swelling in your gums or lumps in your mouth. Other signs of oral cancer are if you have trouble swallowing chewing or moving your tongue or jaw. Go to your dentist immediately for a checkup to see if your teeth are at risk because it is best to catch cancer early. You can most likely get oral cancer from smoking, snuffing or chewing tobacco. Dentures are very popular among the elderly. If you are thinking about dentures or you just got dentures, it can be a difficult transition. I highly recommend you eating soft and non-sticky foods during your first week. You can also cut your foods into pieces, so your teeth don’t hurt as much and chew slowly and alternate the food on both sides your mouth. Once you get used to dentures, your mouth will become less sensitive to hot and hard foods. Sometimes, it will take you awhile to notice you have a bone in your mouth! Ever so often, your mouth adjust, you may need a replacement. Just like your teeth, dentures need to be taken care of to avoid stains and bad breath. Brush it with denture products and soak your dentures in a cup of water at night. Taking care of your teeth is essential, having a sparkling and clean smile is the way to brighten up a day!
