Where Nautical Star Tattoos Originate From
|
The question remains, whatsoever: when the first nautical star tattoos appeared and what do they really mean? As the word has it, the first people that wore such tattoos were sailors, while the others just followed after. The explanation is fairly simple. Hundreds of years ago, sailors did not have technology on their side to guide them through the treacherous waters in seas and oceans. Their knowledge of how to get back home relied only on the position of the stars in the sky, and the most cherished star was the North Star, or Polaris. This star is so important because of its ability to stick to the north pole position, even if the other stars change their position in the sky. Once the sailors saw the North Pole, they could established their routes and head back home, for safety. From the original meaning of guiding one home, physically speaking, the star became a more profound symbol. A person that paints their body with a nautical star tattoos is believed to be in a search for a way in life. Because sailors were leading a very dangerous life, they invested the North Pole star with a different meaning, a mystical one, a symbol that kept them safe from harm, so nautical star tattoos appeared. The nautical star became a more and more powerful symbol over the years. It is said that it is a symbol for security and a grant of direction in life for sailors and travelers. On a metaphorical level, the star represents the power to make your dreams come true while following the road to success. There are many designs that are assumed for the nautical star tattoos. Some represent it as a five pointed star, but others make it look more like a ships compass, which has four main points: North, South, West and East and two secondary points for intermediary directions, like North East, South West, South East, and North West. There is likely to see tattoos that represent an eight pointed star instead of the classical, well known model. The style with the five pointed star is the most popular. This is very close with the original meaning, as it looks very much like the compass that was represented on old sea maps. Nautical star tattoos are very popular, and people enrich the meaning of it, with every day that passes by. Still, the original meaning is strongly connected with the way the old sailors referred to it, a symbol and a guide for finding the way home. This is the original meaning, that cannot be denied, even though it can be extended to others, as well. About The Author: Balva Rudick is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
