One expense that no college student can avoid is the cost of textbooks. High priced textbooks make many students dread the start of each semester when they will have to purchase books for all of their upcoming courses. Textbooks can be very expensive and many courses require multiple textbooks for their classes. This can amount to an unbearable expense for the perennially starving college student. Although the burden of high priced textbooks can drive some college students to the desire to leave the university, this does not have to be the case. There are many ways to buy textbooks at a price that is substantially lower than the cost of a new textbook at the campus bookstore. Some of these options include purchasing used books from the campus bookstore, purchasing books from friends who have completed the course, searching online bidding websites for new and used copies of the textbooks and visiting websites of discount textbook dealers. All of these options are sure to save you money on the obligatory textbook purchases that college students make each semester.

The campus bookstore is the most convenient place to purchase textbooks as they stock each of the textbooks that are required. The textbooks in the bookstore can be very expensive though. The key to buying cheap textbooks at the campus bookstore is to shop early to take advantage of any used books that might be available. Many campus bookstores buy back books from students who have already completed the course. As long as these books are of the same edition that you need, you could save a great deal of money this way. Search for books that appear to be in good condition. You may even find used books that look as though they have barely been used. Another tip for shopping in the campus bookstore is to wait a couple of weeks after the class starts before purchasing your textbooks. Many students purchase the required textbooks and then end up dropping the class and selling the book back to the bookstore. At this time you can buy a used book that really has been barely used.

If you have friends who have already completed a course that you are taking, this could be another resource for finding cheap textbooks. If they no longer need the textbooks they may be willing to give you the textbooks or sell them to you at a discounted price. They may even be able to provide you with their notes or other study materials that could be beneficial to your success in the course.

Online bidding websites such as eBay are another alternative for finding cheap textbooks that are either new or used. eBay is considered a safe way to buy used products online and the security that the system provides, allows you to bid with confidence on the textbooks. Many sellers list details and photos of the textbooks so you should be able to determine if the textbook is the right edition and if it appears to be in good shape. You also have the opportunity to ask the seller questions to find out more about the textbook that they are offering.

There are also online stores that sell discounted textbooks. There are too many of these dealers to mention by name but a simple internet search using the term, “cheap textbooks,” will give you a variety of options to choose from. One tip for purchasing your textbooks online through a discount dealer is to check out the company with the better business bureau before making your purchase. A company that has many complaints against them is probably not a wise choice.

Textbooks can be very expensive but there are many alternatives for finding cheap textbooks. Whether you buy used textbooks from the campus bookstore or a friend or search online for new or used discounted books you are sure to find a bargain in these educational tools.
