Which Hibiscus Fertilizer To Use?



There is nothing quite as beautiful as those big gorgeous flowers that are produced by the hibiscus. But to be able to enjoy these beautiful blooms your hibiscus fertilizer choices are very important because they require proper nutrition.

Remember the soil in your pot can only produce a limited amount of food and sometimes the nutrients in the soil are minimal. Many of these mixes are made up of perlite and peat moss which are not a source of food for your plant. They strictly sure the roots and hold food for the roots but for that to happen you need to feed your hibiscus!

If you want fabulous flowers you need a fertilizer that is high in potassium. That's the type of fertilizer that the hibiscus does best on. This is the third number in the formula. If you are tempted to use a super formula that is high in phosphorus don't! I repeat your hibiscus want's high potassium not high phosphorus!

There are several products that are specifically designed for the hibiscus one of the best products on the market is the Charles Black formula. What's important to remember is you are looking for a product that has a mix that is similar to 17-5-24.

Which ever brand you decide to use make sure that it also has some of the minor nutrients that the hibiscus needs. They should be listed on the bag or container. These are minerals like iron and copper. Be sure to carefully follow the feeding directions. This is critical to a successful application!

It can be difficult to remember to fertilizer with every watering and that's why some of the time release products can be so nice to use. In fact they can really simplify your life while keeping your hibiscus looking great!

Selecting the right fertilizer isn't about price. It's about what your plant needs. The most expensive fertilizers aren't always the best but the cheapest aren't always a good choice either.

By understanding what it is your hibiscus needs and what the condition of the soil is you can choose the right hibiscus fertilizer and have the most beautiful blooms on the block!
