Why Generic Cartridges Are Non-recyclable?

What are Generic Cartridges?

Generic cartridges have now become one of the favored alternatives chosen by printer owners instead of purchasing brand new original printer cartridges. The reason why these are called generic is because they are not made by printer manufacturing companies. Instead, these are commonly sold by companies who offer refilling services at about half the price of an original printer cartridge.

Advantages of Generic Printer Cartridges

The following reasons are why more and more individuals have begun to use generic printer cartridges:

Cost. With prices now going nowhere but up, getting high quality at the lowest possible cost is now vital to every American. Generic printer cartridges are available at about half the price of original print cartridges that are sold by printer manufacturers.

Less mess. Prior to the advent of generic printer cartridges, individuals would need to refill manually their printer cartridges which can often be messy. On top of this, if the refill process is not done properly, the printer cartridge may eventually leak. Not only would this lead to smeared and smudged print outs, but also would cause irreparable damage to the printer itself.

Can be used for a number of different printers. Printer manufacturers would often release various models of printers that use the same printer cartridges. In the same manner, generic printer cartridges can be used and recognized by printers belonging to the same series just like original printer cartridges.

Disadvantages of Generic Printer Cartridges

The primary disadvantage of generic printer cartridges is that they could not be reused. Many printer cartridge refill companies do not accept generic printer cartridges to be refilled. This is because of the fact that generic printer cartridges are already recycled cartridges. Companies who manufacture generic printer cartridges merely refill and repackaged used printer cartridges to be sold to the public. Since these printer cartridges undergone various manufacturing and refilling processes, it may cause the cartridge not to be as sturdy as original printer cartridges.

Common Brands that have Generic Printer Cartridge Counterparts

Generic printer cartridges are available for almost all of the printer brands available in the market today. Some of these are:

Hewlett-Packard
Canon
Epson
Alternatives to Generic Printer Cartridges

Because generic printer cartridges can only be used one time, the best alternative is to simply purchase an original printer cartridge and then have them refilled by refilling companies. After which, you can still continue using your used printer cartridges that have been refilled by refilling companies, you can do this for a couple more times by purchasing ink and toner refill kits. These are available in most office supplies store and computer stores. Make sure that these refill kits are made especially for your printer model to make sure that you are able to get the same high quality text document and image print outs.
