Why Start A Lawn Care Business
|
How in-depth your business is will be entirely up to you. It can be as simple as raking leaves, doing some edging, mowing grass, and perhaps trimming shrubs or it can be as complicated as designing flower gardens, doing landscaping, fertilizing, and doing pest control. Today's lawn business is nothing like the one of just a few years ago. In fact today it's a $20 billion dollar industry and it's a sophisticated business. For your business to be successful there are a few things you'll need to learn about other than just lawn care. You'll need to learn to target your market, what equipment you should buy, how to hire employees and how to manage them, where to find the working capital to get started, how to do your record keeping, and how to do job estimates. Lawn care is a service business and no matter where you live there are lawns that need to be taken care of and landscaping that needs to be done. And this is one business that you can start with a relatively low cash flow. And believe me when I tell you those types of businesses are few and far between. You can work full time or part time and you can put in as many or as few hours as you like. You can work it around another job or family activities and depending on what part of the country you live in you might even find yourself with winters off. One thing is for certain lawn car is a very lucrative business if you want it to be. If you already have a shift schedule job and you want something to fill in those blocks of time that you are off this is a great option. If you just want some part time work while the kids are in school landscaping is a great option. And if you are simply tired of having a boss over your head every day why not consider opening your own business? How much you make is entirely up to you. $20,000 a month is not out of the question and in fact it's probably on the low side. If you start small and grow your business and you are good at what you do operating a $10 million dollar company isn't that far away. All you need is a few good contracts and some reliable staff and you'll be set. But maybe you only want to make a couple hundred dollars extra a month. That's certainly an option too. Remember it's all about flexibility. You'll need some basic tools to begin with and you can expand on those over time. Things like mowers, weedeaters, trimmers, hedge cutters, some hand tools like rakes and shovels, perhaps a small electric chainsaw. You'll also want a wheelbarrow and an old pickup truck too hall your equipment would certainly be useful. Don't just run out and buy tools. Do some research online and learn which tools have the best reputation for standing up and performing. No longer are you just going to be using them occasionally in your own yard but rather on a daily basis so you are going to need reliability. So what can you expect from your lawn care business? You can expect to make a comfortable living and that it will only be limited by the amount of effort you put into your business. You can expect to easily drum up work no matter what part of the country you live in. About The Author: Franklin Neave work in fertilizer producing industry for last 10 years.
