Calabria in Italy’s southernmost region is arguably the best example of everything a potential investor in real estate will be looking for before jumping ‘head on’ into any investment in a property market. The climate is one of extremes, in the mountains, during winter, the temperature can hit as low as 0 degrees whereas in the valleys, during the heights of summer, it can get as hot as 40 degrees!

Arguably, the greatest attraction for the potential property investor to Calabria will be the house prices and potential for return on any investment in your real estate investment. The relatively low house prices might be because the Calabria area was poor until now.

The coastal towns had a shabby charm about them but then the European Union and the Italian government ploughed 1.2 billion Euros into the area to improve roads and infrastructure.

It is the consensus that although properties in Calabria are cheap at the moment, prices are expected to rise very quickly. Calabria is also set to remain unspoilt as Italian legislation ensures that low density, low rise construction is the only permitted form of development in rural Italy.

Investors are generally expected to take advantage of the market right now. In fact, within the next two to three years, the value of Calabria properties could be as buoyant as prices in Spain!
