Why you need a travel insurance plan
|
Just because these arrangements are not fun does not mean that youshould ignore them however. Travelling without insurance is alwaysfrowned upon as medical costs abroad can be very expensive, and shouldyou require treatment you will need to be able to pay for it. At the very least, it could mean that your holiday iscut short or cancelled. At worst, it could leave you penniless andstranded in a far off land, with no means of getting back home. Most holiday companies now offer their own insuranceproducts as you check out and pay for your holiday on their website orover the phone. Although this may be the simplest way to obtain cover,it may well not be the cheapest, or the most comprehensive. It isrecommended that you shop around on the internet and high street first. You might be able to find a great deal using aninternet comparison website, which provides quotes from countlessdifferent insurers using a single set of data at the click of a mouse.None of these are completely comprehensive, however, as some insuranceproviders choose not to pay commission to these sites in order to beable to offer lower premiums, so it might pay to try a few providersthat are not listed on the site as well. Your travel insurance policy needs to insure youagainst illness and accidents, as well as covering the cost of yourholiday should it need to be cancelled due to illness or bad weather.Your belongings should also be insured, and you should seek cover forthird party liability in case of an accident where a third party isinjured. Make sure that you read through your travel policydocument fully and make sure that you know what you are insuredagainst, and what you are not insured against. If you anticipate doingany rock climbing or watersports while on your trip for instance, thenit is best to check that injuries resulting from these activities willbe covered by the policy you have chosen, or if cover for this can beadded to your existing policy. One last tip is to take photocopies of all of yourtravel insurance documents and carry a copy with you at all timesduring your holiday. This way, if you ever need to get in touch withyour insurer during an emergency, you will have all of the relevantinformation with you.
