Wind Chime Supplies: How To Make Your Own Metal Windchimes

Windchimes traditionally are an outdoor decoration. However, many people also enjoy having them inside their homes as well. If you are interested in making your own metal windchimes then you are in luck, because they are fairly easy to make. All you will need is a design plan, wind chime supplies, time, and somewhere to hang them when they are assembled.

The first step that you will need to take is to come up with a windchime design to work with. Your design could be modeled after a chime design that you saw in a magazine or in a store, or it can be something that you have come up with based on your décor or your garden's design. Try to sketch out your design on paper so that you will have a physical reference to look at when you are assembling your windchimes.

After you have your design on paper your next step will be to determine what wind chime supplies you will need. For metal windchimes you will usually need fish line, a hanging kit, a wooden or metal base to hang the chimes from, and metal chimes. The metal chimes can be metal pipes, metal bars, metal washers, or a combination of these tings. After you have made up a list of items that you will need you will need to either find these items around your house, or you will need to buy them.

When you have all of your wind chime supplies you are then read to start assembling your piece. The assembly shouldn't take very long if you have a simple design, however, if you have a complex design you may be working on this project for hours. Your first step in assembling your chimes is to create the base from which the chimes will be hung. To do this you will need to treat the base so that the chimes can hang from it by drilling holes or attaching small hooks to the underside of the base. After the base is ready you can assemble the chimes. This is accomplished by threading the chimes with fish line. Next attach the chimes to the base. Finally attach the hanging kit to the top side of the base following the instruction that came with the kit.

After your windchimes have been assembled your next step is to hang them somewhere. You will want to find a location that will allow the chimes to hang freely without banging up against something, and a location that will compliment the design of your chimes. When you find the perfect location for your design install you piece.

The final step is creating your own windchimes is to appreciate them. Enjoy their music and physical presence in your home. If you are not 100 percent happy with the tones or appearance of your chime design then you can always alter your piece by adding different chimes to the base, by removing chimes from the base, or by making a new chime.
