Wireless Intercom - Tips On Selecting

There are certain aspects that you need to consider when choosing a wireless intercom system for your house or office, like if the system can be integrated with your other connections.

Consumers in the United States can choose between several frequencies: 49MHz, 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz, plus FRS band, and the MURS band.

The first piece of advice we want to give you is to stay away from the 49MHz frequency, as it is weak, and used only by low end units. Your wireless intercom will need much more to perform.

Going further on the list, the 900MHz is not a keeper either. It has security issues and it is known that, when used by phones, conversations could be listened by other individuals. You cannot allow this to happen with your wireless intercom connection, so stay out of the analog transmission technology that comes with this frequency.

Wireless phones used, for some time, the 2.4GHz frequency. This is the frequency for wireless intercom, as well as for Wi-Fi networks. So, in case a Wi-Fi hot spot is next to your house or your office, or you have such a connection in your house, expect interferences between them. You can recognize this happening by a clicking noise that will be heard on the wireless intercom system.

There are also other problems involving this frequency. It is true that you can select the channels you want for your wireless intercom system, but the services that work with 2,4GHz frequency are also able to change channels as they see fit, so you will not get rid of intereferences. The right advice is to avoid this frequency altogether.

Moving forward, to the FRS, or Family Radio Service, keep in mind that this work on the UHF band. Portable radios that use this frequency will be able to interfere with your connections, and your conversations can also be listened. Actually, no wireless intercom connections use such a thing as a FRS frequency.

Wireless phones are to know a new area with the 5.8GHz frequency products. Still, the future has yet to come for wireless intercom system that should work on this frequency. There are no compatibility problems between 5.8GHz and 2.4GHz products.

MURS is the newest thing that is out there. It works on VHF, and it is four times more powerful than FRS. With an antenna installed on your house, you can expand the area for usage for your wireless intercom system, up to four miles around your home. Some devices can expand this distance even more, as manufacturers claim.

Among them, the MURS 4 Mile Range Intercom is the one you should choose if you want it to work between several buildings. Because of its power, it is the right solution to use in a whole neighborhood.

Be aware of the systems that are wireless only with the name. They actually use the wires in your building, and they need an adapter to connect with the existing system. Also, they are not very good, as you will have to deal with a lot of interferences. But they cost less than others, so some people prefer them.

Considering other features that must be checked among your preferences, we can talk about out door wireless intercom systems that should be waterproof. For easiness of installation, a custom system is recommended. Some units can be installed in the walls, while others can work as portable units. Security is a must, too; a digital system will do the work for you.

In order to choose the best wireless intercom system, keep in mind your needs and preferences. This way, you will be sure that you made the right choice.
