    More than 500 years ago the Indians in Central and South America enjoyed a bitter drink consisting of finely ground cacao beans, vanilla and chili peppers. When the Spaniards first began exploring the Americas, they were oddly curious about this bitter tasting drink that the Indians seemed to hold with such high regard. While the natives explained that their interesting drink held distinct health properties, it would not be long before a revised version of the beverage swept Europe and became the forerunner for the decadently delicious hot cocoa we enjoy so much today.
